If I told you this was only gonna hurt,

If I warned you that the fire's gonna burn,

Would you walk in? Wold you let me do it first?

Do it all in the name of love..

"I can't be the one to put you in pain, James. Not again." We were best friends. I was - and still am - in love with him, and I reeled him in. We kissed, we touched, we were each other's anchor. Then, he got away. His memories came back, and mine didn't. He found Steve, and I got scared.

But all that's over now. Most of my memories are back, and I can remember the pain I put him in. "I don't care. I love you."

"You can't love me. With me you're walking through a scolding fire, and it's only going to burn you. I won't let you get burned."

"You can't burn me." He took a step closer, his eyes softening at my fragile state, and slipped his hand into mine. "You can't burn me, Y/N. You already know that."

"But we're not the same, Buck, you don't get it."

"You don't get to get away from me again. I'm not letting it happen."

"I don't wanna hurt you."

"You can't."

Would you let me lead you even when you're blind?

In the darkness, in the middle of the night,

In the silence, when there's no one by your side,

Would you call in the name of love?

I lie on the floor, thoughts of her and I racing through my mind like bullets. The nightmares of them getting to her again terrifying me to the point of insomnia. What if I wasn't fast enough? What if she had to go through all hat bullshit again because I couldn't get to her fast enough?

Was she okay now?

Shit.

I grabbed the phone off of my night stand, quickly, but softly outting in my password before dialing her number, and anxiously putting the phone up to my ear. "Please pick up. Please pick up." When she didn't answer my heart began to pound, my blood runnimg cold.

"Hey, if this isn't Bucky, just leave your voicemail right here." There was a pause. "If it is, James, just come over, I'm always available for you." I grabbed a jacket, and a gun, just in case, and ran five blocks to her house.

"Y/N? Y/N, you in there?" I grabbed the key from behind the porch light, and unlocked the door, my hands at rest.

"Y/N?" I heard her feet padding against the floor, and I dropped my stance when I saw her. She was rubbing her eyes furiously, and yawning as well.

"Bucky, what're you doing?"

"I called, you-uh-didn't answer. I got scared." She opened her eyes, (kinda) and held out her hand, wiggling her fingers for me to take. "You were thinking again, weren't you?"

"Y-yeah." It's been months, and we've done much more than hold hands, but somehow it still sends tingles down my spine. "Nothing's gonna happen to us, okay? You've gotta stop letting yourself fall so far down these holes."

"I just worry so much. I only got you back a few months ago. If I lost you this quickly, I don't know what I'd do." She laid down first, sliding off her sweat pants. I did the same with my shirt and moulded my body to hers. "I know. But sleep is very important." She tiredly dragged out the words she spoke.

"Especially since you're doing all these missions..you need sleep." Her breathing slowed, and I decided not to speak again, knowing she needed her sleep as well.

"I love you."

In the name of love,

Name of love,

In the name of love,

Name of love..

I only looked after him, knowing everyone else could handle themselves. I didn't leave his side, and he never left mine while we fought, strengthening each other's weaknesses.

"Watch out! On your right!" He yelled, and I moved left, shooting one of the aliens behind him. "Thanks."

"Can't have you dying on me now." I smiled before following him deeper into the battlefield. "Stay close, okay? It's hard to see." I only nodded, knowing that I couldn't guarantee that.

"Y/N, Bucky, where are you guys?"

"We're at the deep end. Tony, what're we looking for?" My ears twitched when I picked up a ticking sound, my attention zeroing in on that. "You guys need to get out of there."

"We've gotta finish the mission though?"

"You two are in a straight detonation zone, you need to move. Now!" Steve's voice was the next one I heard and I watched as James went further in while I had stopped.

"James, stop!" He didn't turn around. Or even give a hand signal. "Bucky!" I walked forward, only to be stopped by some invisible barrier.

"Steve, something's in my way. He can't-he can't hear me." Panic rose inside me, and I began to bang on the wall. "Y/N, the whole place is going to blow, you need to get out of there!"

"Not with him! Not an option and you know it!" At that I noticed that he had now looked back at me, and was running toward the barrier.

"I can't hear you, come on, please please." I failed to stop myself from crying, and I kept trying to find a way to get to him.

"Y/N, thirty seconds!" I shook my head.
"No, no."

James kept frantically waving his hands, telling me to go, as I'm pretty sure he could still hear Steve and Tony.

He started walking away. From the barrier, from me, and I unsurely followed, beginning to run back to the ship.

I was in hysterics when we flew up, knowing that walking away was my choice, but still in denial as I watched the explosions.

I hurt him.

Again.
