The annoying sound of my alarm pulls me out of sleep. I scream into my pillow, and reach over to hit my alarm to get it to stop. That noise is what I get to start my day with.
Once the annoying beeping has stopped, I pull myself out of bed. I rush over to my closet at pick a black pair of sweats, and a grey hoodie. I am not in the mood to make myself look nice today. I hear Caleb open his door, so I take my clothes and rush into the bathroom before Caleb can get there.
"Really Beatrice." I hear his muffled voice through the door. I don't really want to listen to him anymore, so I turn on the shower. He can have the bathroom when I am done.
After my shower, I change into my clothes, put my hair into a pony tail, and rush out of the bathroom. "Kay, Caleb. You can have the bathroom now." I yell in the direction of his room.
"It's about time." He responds as he rushes into the bathroom. I just roll my eyes and enter my room. I pick up my phone and shove it into my pocket. Then I slide my feet into my flip flops. I'm sure I look like a total bum. I don't care though. I walk out of my room and go sit in my brother's car. I decided that if he is making me go to this, he is paying for gas.
After ten minutes, Caleb finally gets into his car. I look over at him to see he is wearing a dark blue dress shirt and black slacks. "It's about time." I mumble.
"You need to go change. You have to look nice." Caleb says while he is pulling out his keys.
"Caleb no, let's just go please." I complain to him.
"Whatever." He gets into the car and puts the key in the ignition. "Why are we taking your car? It has more gas."
"You needed to go to this so bad, so your driving. Plus your car is cleaner anyway." I say to him.
We spend the whole drive there arguing over who's car is better. There really is no winning this argument. My brother and I both have nice cars, because our parents have a ton of money due to their jobs. He has a Audi of some sort and I have a Mustang.
Caleb pulls into the parking lot and turns off the engine. I open the door and get out really fast, because I can not stand to be in the car one more second with Caleb. I look around to see the school. This place is huge, I have never seen a high school so big. "Let's go inside Beatrice. It won't do anygood just staring at the school."
"Whatever." I glare at him as I follow him inside.
We enter the large front doors to the school and walk in. A tall man stands just on the inside and greets us. "Hello, I am Mr. Eaton. I am the principal. What is your names?"
"Nice to meet you. I'm Caleb Prior." Caleb reaches out his hand to shake it with Mr. Eaton.
"Hi, I'm Tris Prior." I say to Mr. Eaton. Caleb nudges my shoulder with his elbow. I look up to him and he gives me his 'your doing it all wrong' face. "Beatrice Prior, but I prefer Tris." I tell Mr. Eaton.
"Pleasure to meet you two. You can pick up your schedule over there and Tori over there will take you on your tour Tris. Jeanine will give you your tour Caleb." He points to the table with several schedules on it.
Caleb an I walk over to the table and pick up our schedules for our first semester. I have several classes I don't even want. They seem too hard for a junior.
Ap Bioligy: Jeanine Mathews
Ap History: Mr. Eric
Math IV: Jack Kang
PE: Mr. Eric
Art: Tori Wu
English: Johanna Reyes
"Hi you must be Beatrice." A woman says to me. I look up from my schedule to see my tour leader Tori. "I'm giving you your tour, My name is Ms. Wu, but just call me Tori."
"Nice to meet you Tori, I'm Tris." I tell her. I really dislike when people call me by my real name. It gets under my skin.
"Okay Tris, can I see your schedule?" I hand Tori my schedule. She looks over it real fast. "Follow me. I'm gonna show you where your classes are."
I follow her throughout the school and try to pay attention to when she tells me where one of my classes are. "Tris, are you even paying attention?" she asks me.
"Yeaahh... No. Not really. Sorry I have a lot on my mind." I give her my excuse.
"That's okay, most kids don't pay attention. I understand. I would be bored too." She smiles at me. "You just have to know one last thing. The school is divided up into five sections. Dauntless, is for the outgoing daredevil kids. I see you fitting in there. Erudite is for the smart kids, and I could see you there, but not really. Amity is for the peaceful, that is not you. Abnegation is for the selfless, and that could be you. Candor is for the truthful, and don't pick that one." Tori explains.
"I think I'll go with dauntless." I say. I don't really know why I chose dauntless. I never really put much thought into it. It was a split second decision.
"Okay that means you will have home room with me. Home room in dauntless is mixed with kids of all different grades." She explains.
"Alright. That makes sense. Is there any paper work I need to do?" I ask
"No I'll take care of it. Enjoy the last week of your summer. Before you leave, the clubs and activities are in the lunch room. Down the hall and to your left." She instructs.
"Thank you." I smile and turn to walk into the lunch room. I don't plan on doing any activities, but I want to still see what kind of clubs this school has.
I walk into the lunchroom and see that it is all quiet and organized. I spot Caleb over at the debate table. Caleb will do as many clubs as he can. My eyes scan over all the clubs. None of them are interesting. There is debate, decca, chess, NHS, and so many more. I am about to walk out, when I see a club that catches my eye; Dauntless Boxing.
I walk over to the table to talk to the person at the table. "Hi." I say to the person behind the table.
"You interested in Boxing?" The guy asks me.
"Yeah, I guess." I reply. I look up to him. He is wearing all black and his muscles stick out of his shirt. I look away before he notices I was paying attention.
"Well we start conditioning the first day of school in the weight room. If your interested, here is the sign up sheet." He hands me a clip board with a bunch of names on it that I don't recognize. I write my name and number down in the next available boxes. He takes the clip board and says, "Cool, Tris I'll see you there. I'm Four by the way, the captain of the team. I'm a senior here. The owner is a teacher named Eric, he had to give tours today, so he couldn't be here."
"Okay. Why do you need everyone's number on the sign up sheet?" I ask.
"It is for text reminders. You can cross of your number if you don't want the texts." Four says. "I can give you my number if you have any more questions."
I take out my phone and unlock it. I hand it to him. It takes him just a few seconds to type in his contact info. He gives me my phone back. "Thanks." I say.
"No problem see you there." Four replies. I nod and make my way to my brother's car.
Once I get in, I listen to him talk and go on and on about how he chose Erudite. No surprise there. He also talks about how he is in almost every club there is. I give him simple answers like cool, or whatever. The ride home seems to take forever being that Caleb just will not stop taking.
When, we finally get home, I rush up to my room and flop onto my bed. I guess I am officially going to Chicago High School. I don't really want to, but I have no choice. I have one week to warm up to the idea. I am dreading my first day of school. Hopefully it will go okay.
