These upcoming chapters might have a few errors. By that I mean something that is said that does not match a previous thing said in previous chapters. That is because I have not been on to write in about 3 months, and I have not had time to re-read anything due to school and work. I have a job now, so that eats a lot of my time.
Just wanted to say thank you for hanging in there, and not giving up on this book. I know I am horrible for not updating. My life has just changed so much since I started writing this.

Caleb POV: (a while after the incident)
I open my eyes to see the sun shinning in through my open blinds. I feel like there is a part of me missing. A part of me I will not be able to get back. All because of that flu I got. A CDC man has told me that there is no way I can get my memory back, as it is a permanent effect from the flu, I roll over to look at the clock on my nightstand.
It is already noon, but it is Saturday. I throw my blankets off and stand up. Jeanine is going to be mad at me for being late to the lab, but I don't care to be honest. She has been very pushy, because we are not making progress on the project.
I pick up a t-shirt from the ground and smell it to make sure it is clean enough to wear, and then grab my ID tag. I remember the day they gave it to me. Apparently I had lost my old one, but I don't remember every having one. As a matter of fact, I don't even remember being in college.
I hear a pounding on my door. It must be Jeanine an she is right on time. "Caleb, Let's go NOW!" She yells through the hollow wooden door. I open the door and she stumbles inside the room. Jeanine wrinkles her nose. "Ugh. You need to clean up this room. No wonder your room mate left you." She walks out and I follow her making sure to close the door behind me.
"He dropped out Jeanine." I mumble to her as she stomps through the hallway. We enter a stair well and begin our decent to the first floor.
"Ugh, rain." She comments at the rain storm as she bursts outside. We both break into a run on our way to the lab. "This is why I picked here for our location. It doesn't rain here."
What location, and who is us? "What" I ask her over the torrential rain.
"Oh nothing." She says back. We get to the lab, and she uses her card to get in. I follow close behind. As soon as we enter, the lights turn on revealing a man hunched over in one of the chairs dead asleep. "Eric! Get up. You are such a bum." Jeanine yells at the man named Eric.
"No four don't shoot!" He wakes in a start with his arms shielding his face. I look over to Jeanine to see the disgust all over her face. He said something he shouldn't have.
"To many scary movies last night Eric?" Jeanine blurts. She is trying to cover up Eric's mistake.
"No... I mean yes." He finally catches on when he looks right at me. He stares at me with his bloodshot eyes. Eric looks as if he is homeless. Grease fills his hair, his face is covered in oils, there is dirt smeared all over his shirt. Something has happened to him. "Jeanine." He sighs. "We have a problem."
I can feel my eyes open wide as I stare at this man. "Caleb calm down. I will be back in a second." Jeanine says as she stops over to Eric and drags him into another room. Each room in the lab is made of shatter and sound proof gas. Although I can't hear Jeanine and Eric, I can tell something has happened.
Jeanine is obviously yelling at Eric, but he is just staring at her. He lifts up the side of his shirt to reveal a gash that is most likely from a bullet that grazed over his skin. Jeanine examines it and then explodes.
I take a seat on one of the many stools, and wait for her to finish. After about ten more minutes, Jeanine finally walks out, with a defeated Eric close behind. "Caleb," She starts. "This is a new blood sample, please test it."
"For what?" I ask. Jeanine has me test these samples for a number of things.
"I want to know if they are lucid. I also need to test for the divergent count please." She stops and looks at me. I have never done either of these tests before. "A Divergent count is the amount of damaged genetic material in the chromosome that deals with brain activity. It is almost a measure of how powerful this person's will is. You will need to preform a gel electrophorisis with subject 2145's first sample. They were normal in this test. Measure the difference."
"Okay?" I say in question form. "Where are you going?"
"I'll be back in about two hours." She walks out of the lab with Eric close behind. This could be a problem. If security finds I am in here unsupervised, I can get kicked out of the school for sure this time.
-----Page Break-----
I look at the results from the electrophorisis on the computer. According to Jeanine's definition, Subject 2145 has gotten stronger as far as power of will goes. However, I have never seen such a mutation, with little to no side effects.
"Interesting." Someone says from over my shoulder. I jump and look around to see Jeanine examining the data.
"How is that possible? How are they alive?" I question her.
"I don't even know Mr. Harris." Jeanine refers to my last name. I watch her facial expression change from intrigued to frustrated in a matter of seconds.
"What is the matter. Isn't this a good thing. We have discovered something!" I tell her.
She looks at me with disgust. "If only you knew what was happening Caleb. If only you knew." I can feel the horror spread across my face. "This is not good! I tried to stop something, but instead I made it worse."
"That is science though isn't it?" I ask her trying to calm her down. "You have to fail numerous times, before you try something that works."
"I'm out of tries now Caleb." She yells. "None! NO MORE!"
I just stare at her. "Just go Mr, Harris. You are done for today." She points to the door. I don't waste a second as I exit the lab. This has happened once before. When Jeanine is mad, it is best to leave her alone.
Her words play over and over again in my head as I try to get to my dorm room. If only you knew what was happening Caleb. If only you knew.
