"After we were done watching the sunset, we had all went inside and crashed." I tell my brother as he comes into my room Sunday morning.
"Well you were gone all day yesterday." He tells me.
"I know Caleb. I slept all day. Then I came here and slept some more. It is none of your business where I am at every second." I tell him.
He sighs and rushes out of the room. "Wait!" I yell after him. "Where are mom and dad?" I question.
"I don't know." He comes back in. "That's a good question though."
I watch him as he tries to think about my parent's whereabouts. "Hand me my phone." I point to my desk across the room.
"You get it." He tells me as he walks out.
I scream into my pillow and push myself out of bed. I walk over to my desk and pick up my phone. I see that I have one missed message from my dad.
"Beatrice I had to take your mother to the airport. She has a business trip in Nashville. I was going to tell you this morning, but you looked tired so I let you sleep. I should be home by two."
Why is she going to Nashville? I dial in my dads number and put the phone to my ear.
"Hello?" He picks up.
"Why Nashville?" I ask him.
"Her job needed her to go there." He replies.
"Dad No!" We can't be leaving the city like that." I drop my voice into a whisper. "Not with everything going on."
"It will be fine." He says. "I have to go. I am driving."
"Kay. Bye." I hang up.
I wait for my dad to get home and once he does he suddenly needs to take me to the doctor.
"You need to get your cast off?" He tells me.
"Really?" I ask. "Thank god. Let's go."
"Caleb let's go." My dad calls for my brother.
"Why does he need to go?" I question.
"Because I said so." My father retorts.
We all drive over to the doctor, and once we get there my dad looks over at me. "Beatrice I am not kidding. I needed to leave that house because it was bugged." He looks ad Caleb. "This goes for you too. I need you both to be careful about what you say. Marcus is constantly giving me reports of they way you are always in trouble."
"We are not really the ones in trouble though." I mutter.
"Than what is it Beatrice?" My dad raises his voice a little bit.
"We can't tell you." Caleb defends me.
"Oh my gosh!" My dad slams his hands onto the dash board. "How am I supposed to help you then. I don't think you realize the amount of danger we are in right now."
"Oh we know." I look out the window. "You just need to trust us. If we mention a word about it, then the whole family is dead." I look back at my father. "That is the most we can tell you."
"Fine Beatrice." He throws his hands up in the air like he is giving up. "By the way. Marcus's's son, that Four kid, is in this trouble too. Did you know that?"
"Yes." I reply simply.
"Anyway. He told me that they are searching lockers tomorrow. I got the warrant today in an email." He warns me. My father's job entails him managing the how the school district operates. He gets all the warnings of lockers searches right in his inbox, but this is the first time he has told me.
