It’s Saturday, and I just arrived at Pierce’s house. Damn him, he left too many bruises last night and I don’t plan on going swimming today because of it. The thing that makes it worse, Evelyn can tell if something happened or not.

“Hey guys,” I shout as I’m walking into the backyard.

“Aab!” Evelyn and Maisie shouted jumping out of the pool and running over to me. They tackled me to the ground making me groan in pain and getting my clothes wet.

“Oh my goodness! I am SO sorry Aab; I didn’t mean to jump on you that hard!” Maisie apologized.

“It’s ok, Maze, don’t worry about it.” I smile at Maisie and look over at Evelyn. She stares at me looking a little angry.”Everything ok Eve?” I try acting like nothing is wrong.

Evelyn continues to stare at me, but then stands up and walks away.”What was that all about?” Pierce asked.

“I have no idea, so how are we spending tonight?” I change the subject, getting a feeling that Evelyn knows something.

“Well, I was thinking about having a barbecue, swim for a while, then have a movie night in the living room while eating bunches and bunches of sweets.” He suggested.

“Bunches is not proper language. But sounds like a plan, a really good plan.” I said.

“Yea, but I need some extra stuff for the night too. Do you mind going to the store to grab some things?” Pierce asked.

“Yea, sure. No problem,” I said. I look around,” Does anyone want to come with me to go grab some things from the store?” I asked.

“Nah, we’re good!” Everyone shouts, but Evelyn gets out of the pool and wraps a towel around herself.

“Sure, I’ll go, just give me a minute to get dressed.” She walks inside the house.

“Ok, well, here’s the list of stuff I need and some money. If you end up having to use your own then just tell me and I’ll pay you back. Don’t take too long,” Pierce rushed trying to put coal in the griller.

“Yea, whatever, is that everything?” I asked, checking over the list.” Oh! You want some Gummy Worms, awesome,” Evelyn walks out with her hair dripping wet.” Are you ready to go?”

“Yea, let’s go,” she walks by me and goes to the car.

“Ok then,” I look around and wave bye to everyone.” Hey, where’s Penny?” I ask

“Oh she’s not here yet, but personally, I think she got lost. But, you’ll see her when you get back.” Pierce said and I nodded.

I hop into the car and drive to the store. When I get there, I turn the car off and look at Evelyn.”What’s up? You’ve been acting strange since I got to Pierce’s,” I said. I look deep within her green eyes, and I find anger.

“Maybe my problem is that he hit you again and you won’t tell me about it. I’m not stupid ok; I’m your BEST friend. I put the BEST in besties, that’s what we are, and we trust each other more than anyone else. So why didn’t you tell me that he hit you again. I swear, the next time I see him, he’s going to regret he ever laid a fucking hand on you.” Evelyn said.

“You’re making such a big deal out of this Eve, don’t worry abo-“ Eve cut me off.

“What?! I am NOT making a ‘big deal’ out of this Aab! It’s already a big deal on its own! What is your problem? You know that it’s not a normal thing for him to hit you! You’re smarter and stronger than this!” Evelyn shouted.” How many?”
