Chapter 17

School dragged on but I managed to stay awake through all of it. Afterwards, we were all standing around just hanging out as other students drove on home.

"Look guys, as much as I would like to stay here and hang out, I got to go." Penelope announced while digging through her purse.

"Oh! I like need a ride," Maisie added and followed after Penelope. We hollered goodbye to them and continued our conversations. Another 10 minutes later Evelyn and Wyatt left. Then 15 minutes later Pierce got a call from his mom and drove home. Leaving me with Sterling, Myra, and Jace.

"Well, looks like they're gone, so I'm going to head home too." I said but Myra grabbed my shoulder making me turn around to face her.

"Do you think you could give us a ride? Sterling's car is in the shop." She explained.

"Sure, hop in guys," I nodded my head as I smiled at them. "What's your address?"

"1911 Oak Street," Myra replied and I turned left, towards their house. As I was driving down the roads, Sterling and Myra were having an argument over the radio stations.

"91.0 is so much better than that 'pop sensational' crap you call music!" Sterling commented.

"Oh? And like all that rap is supposed to represent the specific definition of music?! I don't think so! Change it back to 87.6!" Myra retaliated.

"Oh and now you have to go and use big words on me?" Sterling glanced at Myra, who glared back.

"Big words? Like what?" She asked.

"Specific! And.. and.. represent!" He pointed out. Myra just rolled her eyes.

"Oh please! I haven't even begun to use big words yet. But you do have a small brain. I'm amazed you're in high school," Myra crossed her arms, face smug. I was on their street, and still listening to the bantering of the little 2 year olds in the back seat, when Jace pointed out his house. He laid his hand on mine, that lay on the middle compartment, and pointed to my left. Towards a yellow-ish two story house.

"It's that one," Jace said, his face close to mine. My hand started warming up and I felt my heart speed up a little. Then I felt a rush of cold air engulf my hand when Jace pulled away. I stared at him and he stared back, some weird emotion flashed through his eyes but I didn't quite see what it was. Shaking my head mentally, I looked away and thought that I just imagined everything that happened within the last few seconds.

I pulled up to his house and parked in the driveway. They all scrambled out, Jace already heading inside. Myra hauled her bag over her shoulder and leaned down to talk to me.

"Thanks for the ride," She said making me take my eyes off of Jace's back. Myra stood there awkwardly as I nodded my head and let my eyes go back to Jace. There was something that she wanted to say and I waited for her to say it while still staring at Jace as he walked inside. "So umm... Do you want to come in?" She asked me. I jerked my head to look at her and noticed her expression was serious. Then Sterling appeared at my window and opened my door.

"Totally! You need to come and hang out with us!" I didn't have time to respond as I was yanked from my seat. My arm ached in pain from the bruises that still lingered and Sterling reached inside to take the keys out. I followed behind slowly while Myra and Sterling walked inside.
