Chapter 10
I woke up exhausted from my dream. But when I remembered what today was a big smile appeared on my face. ‘Pierce is coming home!’ I thought and hopped out of bed ready to start my day. I rushed in the shower and got dressed in sweats, a large t-shirt, converse, and put my hair in a bun. Then I grabbed my bags and headed out the door also grabbing an apple. I started my car and backed out of the driveway drumming my fingers to the beat of the song on the radio.
When I got to school, I hung out with everyone until the bell rang. Myra, Sterling and Jace were giving me weird looks but everyone knew how happy I was that Pierce was coming back. Nothing could ruin my happy mood, not even Constance. By the time school ended, I went to all of Pierce’s teachers and got his homework. I was walking back to my car and everyone was hanging around just talking.
“Hey guys,” I smiled at them and opened my door putting the stack of papers on the passenger seat. “So what are you guys going to do this weekend?”
“Nothing, just hang at home with these idiots,” Myra rolled her eyes.
“Yea I feel for ya,” Evelyn said.
“Hey! I’m not that bad,” Sterling feigned hurt.
“Yea, sure you’re not,” Myra replied.
“Tell Pierce I said ‘Hi’,” Penelope said.
“Me too,” Maisie added.
“Us too,” Evelyn said.
“So when do we get to meet the famous Pierce?” Myra asked.
“Monday,” I said and looked at the time on my phone. “I got to go guys, I’ll talk to you later,” I said and got into the car. “Call me ok?” I rolled the window down.
“Ok, have fun!” Wyatt said and waved bye. Before I drove away, I blew them a kiss (I rarely do this, but I was really happy) and Jace’s face looked shocked but for only a second.
I drove down Martin Street, turned left onto Palin Rd. and pulled into Pierce’s driveway. I reached over and grabbed my bag and the homework for Pierce and got out of the car. I walked up the steps to the house and knocked on the door. Mrs. Carter opened the door and I noticed the tired look on her face. She has beautiful wavy brown hair, like Pierce’s, that went to her mid-back and brown eyes. Her face is somewhat heart shaped with a small nose, small full-ish lips, thin eyebrows and a few freckles along her cheeks. Pierce gets his looks from his Mom, he has features from his Dad but he mostly looks like his Mom. They’re very close anyway; she was the only one of his parents that fully accepted his sexuality.
“Hi, hon,” Mrs. Carter gave me a pleasant, bright smile.
“Hi Mrs. Carter,” I walked inside and gave her a tight hug. “I missed you.”
Mrs. Carter laughed and slapped me playfully on my back. “What have I said about calling me that? It makes me feel so old, call me Rachel.”
“Ok, Rachel,” I said and let go of her. She has always been like another mother to me. “So is Pierce around?”
“Yea, that big lazy son of mine is upstairs. Go on up, I know that you’re here for him, and never me,” Mrs. Carter pouted.
“You are so wrong, I’m just here to satisfy him, but between me and you, he’s a pain-in-my-buttocks. I’d prefer to hang with you, but I don’t want to hear him complain.” I rolled my eyes.
“I knew there was a reason to have you here all the time, we share the same opinions.” Mrs. Carter winked at me and began to walk away, “Now go up before we start to hear his complaints again,” I laughed and went upstairs passing Jane on the way.
