Chapter 11

My alarm started beeping and I reached over to turn it off. I have been awake for the past hour thinking about my dream. It was different than the other nightmares that I have, I just don’t understand it. With it still lingering in my mind, I got out of bed and decided to be productive today. So I walked into my bathroom and turned the shower on. I turned the radio on and started dancing around my bathroom. When the water turned hot, I hopped in while singing along to the song. After I was done, I put on a robe and looked through my closet for something to wear.

“Adeline?” My Mom walked into my room.

“In here,” I said from the closet and continued putting an outfit together.

“Hey, what are you doing?” She asked me.

“I just got out of the shower because I have stuff to do today.” I said and went back into my room.

“Oh, are you going out?” She kept asking questions.

“No, I’m just going to help around the house today,” I said. “I’m feeling kind of productive,” I shrugged my shoulders and pulled my jean short-shorts on and buttoned them together.

“That sounds like fun,” she said but I could tell that there was something else on her mind. I smiled at her and put a loose black shirt, with a red heart and the bottom of it separated into strings, on. I walked over to the mirror and brushed my hair into a high ponytail. “It’s just… I don’t know. We haven’t really done anything together, you know. Just the two of us, hanging out.”

I thought about it,” Well, we can always start working on the garden you used to talk so much about. We have the supplies and we won’t need to waste money on anything.” I suggested. The spark in her eyes got brighter after she heard what I said.

“That sounds lovely; I’ll wear something decent to get dirty.” She said smiling happily.

“Ok and I’ll start a load in the laundry,” I smiled back at her. ‘This is going to be a long day,’ I thought but shook the thought from my head and smiled. After I started a load of laundry, I headed downstairs and grabbed an apple.

“Honey, are you ready to start?” Mom asked coming down the stairs.

“Yea Mom, let’s go,” I finished my apple and threw it away while following Mom into the garage. We worked together to get the supplies outside. Mom found a nice, visible spot for our garden and anyone can see it.

“Grab that shovel and let’s start digging sizable holes for the seeds,” Mom said and we both started working on that. “So, how has school been? Any guys that have fallen into the picture?”

“No Mom, you know me. Education goes first and then I’ll consider boys,” I rolled my eyes. “And school’s been school, you know? The tests, homework, projects, labs, and Café chatter. Nothing has really changed… except for the new students we got.”

“New kids? You never told me about any new kids at your school,” Mom said dropping everything she was doing.

“Yea, don’t you remember letting Eve in and a guy was with her when I was sick in bed?” I asked her.

“No, I was too busy in the kitchen cooking,” she said thinking back.

“So you mean that Eve just barged into the house? Wow Mom,” I said and went back to digging shallow holes in the dirt.

“Well, she’s YOUR friend,” she tried to defend herself.

“Yea? But, YOU’RE the adult,” I replied. “You could’ve told her to knock and wait for you to answer the door.”
