Chapter 18
It was finally Friday. Meaning that we were going out tonight like we planned and I was slightly excited. This is the first friend's night out with our new members.
After I jumped out of the shower, I threw on some baggy clothes and headed out. I parked in my regular spot and climbed out, heading towards my friends.
"Hey guys," I greeted.
"Hey Aab!" Sterling threw a hug around me and smiled brightly down on me. I was still sore but managed to keep the pain from reaching my face. By tomorrow my bruises would be gone, mostly, but I'll still be sore for the next couple of days. He let me go and everyone else greeted me.
"So are you guys ready for tonight?" I asked eagerly. But no one really responded to me. I was going to ask again but Constance bounced up to our group. She looped her arm through Jace's and smiled at him. I rolled my eyes and heaved a big sigh.
"So are we still on for tonight Jace?" She asked him sweetly. I saw Eve walk into the building, leaving us behind and headed that way to see what was up. Just before I left, I caught Jace staring at me. He wasn't glaring, just staring curiously. I shrugged my shoulders and turned back, moving towards the building that Eve entered just moments ago.
I looked down the hall and saw her walk into the restroom. When I walked up to the door, it was locked. I slammed my fist on the door repeatedly.
"Eve! I know you're in there!" I said and stood patiently as I waited for her to open it. Minutes pass by before the door slowly creaked open and I stepped through the opening. Eve was hiding behind the door and quickly shut it when I got in. I stared her down as she slid to the floor with her back to the wall. She covered her face with her hands but remained quiet. I sat next to her and wrapped my arm around her shoulder. She leaned into me, using my shoulder as her support. I could tell that something was really bothering her but didn't comment. She'll tell me when she's ready.
The bell rang but I didn't move from my spot. Neither did Eve. Soon after, the tardy bell rang and we still refused to move an inch. Then I suddenly heard slight snoring and looked down to see that Eve fell asleep. I chuckled quietly and reached into my bag to grab a book. Then I opened to my recent page and read for hours.
When the bell for lunch started, I glanced away from my book to look at Eve. She was still fast asleep on my shoulder but I knew that she'll be hungry when she woke up. So leaving my things here and slowly placing Eve's head on my bag, I left the restroom. Making sure to put a sign on the door saying 'Out Of Order'. At least that's what I think they do with restrooms. Then I made my way into the Cafe to grab a couple of bags of chips, cookies, water and fruit cups with a spoon. When I got back to the restroom, I opened the door and locked it behind me. I settled back on the floor with Eve's head on my lap. I decided to give her my hoodie to cover up with and ate my part of the food and continued reading. An hour passed and Eve stirred in her sleep before sitting up and stretching. I stayed quiet and continued to read my book, ignoring the fact that she was awake, on purpose. She turned to me.
"How long was I asleep?" She asked me making me set my book down and smile sweetly at her.
"Well good morning to you too Mrs. Sleepyhead," I spoke sarcastically. She rolled her eyes at me and looked around. "Or should I say afternoon?"
"Afternoon? What time is it!?" Eve's eyes bugged out of her head.
"It's..." I trailed off and looked at the imaginary watch on my wrist. "It's who knows. But I'm pretty sure that we're in the 6th period. So it's late," shrugging my shoulders, I picked my book back up only to have it ripped from my hands. Eve glared at me and I just sat there looking innocent. "What?"
