Chapter 14

**********

I slowly crawled out of bed this morning. My stomach and arms sore from last night's beating. My phone went off, it sounded like a text.

Hey I don't need a ride today. Going with Wyatt, see you there! ;) Love, Eve. <3

Fun, Pierce doesn't need a ride and now Eve. This morning ride will be boring. After I took a shower I threw on more sweats and a long sleeved t-shirt to hide my bruises with a tank top underneath. When I arrived at school, no one was around. The parking lot was practically empty. But when I walked into the entrance, it made sense to me. Everyone was crowded around a bunch of kids. They were yelling things like 'kick his ass' or 'fight, fight!' A bunch of immature idiots.

As I was forcing my way through the crowd, I noticed some people in the middle. No, it can't be...

"Jace?!" I shouted toward the middle. But he didn't hear me and continued pushing a guy away from him. I pushed people out of the way. Everyone was yelling other fun words at me and insults. But I ignored them, only needing to get to Jace before he gets himself hurt. "Jace!" I screamed at the top of my lungs and he froze at my voice immediantly. I saw his eyes guide themselves toward me and suddenly the guy, Jace was fighting with, flew a fist toward Jace's face. I was about to close my eyes because I didn't want to see what happened but then Sterling was right next to him and moved the fist away from Jace while landing a punch to the gut.

"What the hell, man?" Sterling yelled in Jace's face. I saw a vein bulging out on his forehead. Jace didn't say anything, he just simply pointed to me. Sterling followed his hand and his jaw dropped when he saw me. Immediantly he threw his hands in the air and started yelling. "Alright everyone! Show's over! Now get on with your life," he walked over to another guy groaning in pain. He picked up a shirt off the ground and wiped the sweat from his face. As everyone groaned in disappointment, Jace and Sterling cautiously approached me. I backed away from them. Jace's eyes briefly filled with sadness before he covered it up.

"I-I-I..." I stuttered while slowly backing away from them. They stopped trying to walk up to me and just stood there, keeping their distance. Sterling's face fell in sadness and regret. Jace sighed deeply as he ran a hand through his hair.

"It's not what it looks like Aab!" Sterling panicked. "You see umm... well... They just..." Sterling elbowed Jace in the side. Jace stared at him in irritation before I guess he finally got the point.

"They started it." Jace rolled his eyes and Sterling stared at him wide eyed. I watched them as they held a silent conversation between each other. Sterling must have lost the argument because he stomped his foot and looked away in defeat. Jace just smirked as he eyed his friend. I watched Jace closely, narrowing my eyes on him as he poked Sterling. Sterling was fidgeting and trying to scoot away from Jace but he wasn't trying hard enough. Jace finally glanced my way and his eyes held shock in them as he noticed my focused attention was only on him.

"Dude, cut it out!" Sterling shouted at Jace who smirked in triumph. Then Sterling smacked Jace on the back of the head and twisted his body back around. He folded his arms together and completely ignored Jace's presence. I saw Jace scowl at me but I just smiled in return. No matter how rude he will get, I know there's a nice person in there. He took a half step back and looked confused that I smiled at him. I slowly walked up to him and chuckled softly. Sterling whirled around and stared at us while I continued to smile at him, he was looking at me as if he was trying to figure me out. Then out of no where he smiled back. Very faintly and not that noticeable but since I was focused only on him, I saw it. And by the sounds of it, Sterling saw it too.
