Chapter 28: Jace’s POV
When I saw Aab go back to her average clothing choice, I was disappointed. Since I've seen her in those sexy jeans and bikini set, it was like I became hooked. I constantly looked at her body, searching for that sexy figure I knew she had. But she didn't wear anything other than the sweats and big shirt. Not even to the party that Constance held at her house.
Honestly, I wasn't even expecting to see her there in the first place. Constance made it clear of how she views Aab. And the whole time I was there, I was trying to avoid Constance. She's made it blatantly obvious of how much she's been wanting to get into my pants, much to my annoyance. So I see it as a goal to not even be near her for any reason. She just aggravates me and insults Aab.
And I was still confused as to what was going on between Eve and Wyatt. From the moment I saw them together, I could see how much they cared about each other. It especially confused me when on Monday, Eve was sitting with Aaron and his friends; while Wyatt introduced us to his new girlfriend, Sierra, during lunch. I could see how sad but irritated Aab acted when she tried to smile and be nice to the new girl.
"So how long have you guys been dating?" Penny asked with a bitter sweet tone in her voice. Sierra looked up from her tray and smiled.
"About a week," she responded much too kindly. Either she didn't hear Penny's tone or chose to ignore it. "We met a couple months ago though."
Everyone nodded, not bothering to respond. I could see the anger the group held and could only guess that it was directed towards Wyatt. But I couldn't guess why, and Sterling and Myra were confused as well.
"How long have you guys been friends?" Sierra asked, looking at everyone. No one responded as they got up to throw away their food. Then one by one everyone started to throw around different excuses before walking away from the table. I followed after them, not even giving an excuse of my own. I could see the slight hurt in Sierra's eyes as everyone left, just leaving her and her new boyfriend behind. Wyatt didn't even try to stop anyone or ask them to be nicer to her. He kept his head down and shoveled food into his mouth, nodding mutely as she talked.
It wasn't until later after school today that Aab and the others told us the story. That Eve broke up with Wyatt and that he started dating so quickly afterward; while Eve still felt heartbroken before finally accepting a date from the most popular guy on campus. Apparently it was obvious how hurt Eve was even though she tried to hide it from everyone. No one is happy with Wyatt and most of the group silently blame him for the breakup even if Eve was the one to call it off.
Sierra continued to integrate herself into the group but no one was responding to her efforts at conversation. She huffed and crossed her arms, pouting like a child which didn't sit right with most of us. We glared at her as we left to go home.
***
A few days passed by with Sierra still trying to be part of our group while Eve acted as though she was exiled. Aab tried to talk her into joining our table again but she refused. I could even see how much Eve hated sitting with Aaron and his friends. I knew from experience that all they could talk about was the next party to attend or the next sports game.
It was Thursday when she finally decided to sit with us. I could see from our table that Eve and Aaron were having an argument before she grabbed her things and plopped herself in the chair next to Aab. No one wanted Eve to feel left out and immediately started talking to her about different things that have happened throughout the week. No one made a comment about why she hasn't sat here in a while or anything. After a tense second of sitting across the table from Sierra, Eve relaxed in her seat and responded back to her friends. She smiled and laughed, unknowingly relaxing us as well with her presence. Since Sierra joined, no one has really talked and this is the first in several days that we were actually quite talkative.
