Uri

"Don't forget to give that note to your mom," Ms. Mavericks told me sticking the note in clear sight of my book bag.

I nodded, keeping my head low and left out. Mom was waiting outside already so I took my time.

Hm what's a good excuse? I didn't mean it? He tripped I promise? I'm not sure how it happened.? No she won't believe any that.

I managed to get to the car and slyly put my book bag up, but she saw it. She always sees it. It's freaky how she can always do that. I can be behind her and she can know every move I make.

"Uri, what it that?"

"What is what?"

She stared at me for a second blankly and then smiled pointing to the note in my bag. "That."

"This," I pointed to the note jokingly hoping it'd lighten the mood.

"Yes," she smiled.

"Oh that's just a little letter."

She sighed and rolled her eyes, going for the note. She read it, looked at me, then at the school. Ms. Mavericks was standing by the door watching the other kids. Mom kept looking out and then finally back to me.

"Which kids?"

I shyly pointed to Seth who had a black eye, a few bruises and a bloody nose. Then to Noah who had an ice pack to his head, a split swollen lip and a split eyebrow. David wasn't out because his arm was broken so he went to the hospital.

She shook her head leaving her eyes closed. "And how did that happen and don't lie to me."

"I was sitting in lunch minding my business and Seth pushed me. I dropped some of my food trying to catch myself and he kicked my food. I tried to pick it up and not to react mom I swear, but I did. When he was losing is when the other two got hurt."

"Does the teacher know?" I shook my head and she got out. "Come on, Uri."

I rushed after her, trying to pull her back to the car, but it was like her hand caught on fire. I yelped and she turned around for a second to make sure I was okay and kept going. It was just weird that that happened.

"Excuse me ma'am can I have a word with you," she asked the teacher. "You suspended my son from school for fighting is that correct?"

"Why yes Mrs. Smith, we don't allow fighting in this school."

"I understand that and neither do I, it's just that my son has been bullied constantly every day. I won't sit here any longer watching the same kids bother my son without consequences. He only protected himself because you couldn't find the time to correct those kids." Mom got closer lowering her voice. "I get it you're sneaking around with one of their father's but that doesn't give you the okay to punish my kid. He will be here tomorrow at 8:00 like any other day. He's not getting suspended and it's not going on his record. Have a blessed day. Let's go, Uri."

I followed behind her and sat there quietly. She was mad and usually she doesn't get this mad. She stays calm. A nice calm. Even when she drinks she's calm. Right now she was a weird kind of calm like she would snap. She was driving 100 mph and I keep thinking she's going to hit something.

We got home quick and I ran inside. Dad stopped me, but I wanted to go to my room.

"What's the rush?"

"Mom is mad," I told him quietly.

His face got serious for a second but he smiled and nodded anyway. "She's probably not mad just a little tired." I shook my head. "Oh okay, how about you go up."

I did but I stood by the stairs at the top instead to see. She came in still upset and dad tried to calm her down. She told him what happened and he sighed shaking his head.

"I think I got hot," she told him.

He touched her hands and jerked back. "Just a little. Did he notice?" She nodded. "It'll be fine."

"Aniel, he's getting older, he's going to start questioning things and he's going to notice more." Out of nowhere it was like a gust of wind behind her, moving in a circle. "He'll find out soon."

"He's going to sooner or later, but let's not worry about that. We have baby to worry about," he said touching her belly.

The wind stopped and she smiled. "Yeah. I forget we don't have to worry about everything anymore. I just have this feeling like something is about to happen and I'm not sure what."
