A Few Twists Along the Way
Jack
It was late night now,
and we were still on
the road. I knew the
trip takes a long time,
anyway, so it wasn’t
that big of a deal. I
didn’t feel there was
any threat staying
in this particular
vehicle with Justin.
I wasn’t able to nap
like I’d hoped I’d be
able to do. It was way
too difficult with all
of the stuff that was
on my mind at the time.
We were at some
small motel in some
podunk town in the
middle of Louisiana.
I’m not even sure of
the name of the town
at all. It escapes me.
Justin turned to me.
You looked tired, so
I decided we should
stop for the night.
Resting would be a
good idea for us both.
I suppose that was
the first twist in things.
I’m pretty sure I gave
him a weird look for
that idea. It was odd.
I mean, yes, I was
tired, but I wouldn’t
have done that for
a hitchhiker I picked
up off of the side of
the road. It’d be a
waste. I’d prefer to
just have them sleep
in the vehicle, since
that wouldn’t be in
my way as much.
