A Different Kind of Beat
Ace
After our break, we were
back out on the
road like we had
been before. Summer's
hand was on my
leg, gently rubbing
it as she drove along. I'd
forgotten where we
were by now, but I
didn't really care. I already
felt a thousand
times better than
I'd felt when we left.
Are you feeling,
okay, Acey?
I knew that Summer was
probably worried
about how I was
feeling after everything
that just happened
even though I didn't
reject her kiss or anything.
"I'm feeling fine,
Summer. Don't
worry about me, okay?"
She looked at me.
If you say so.
If you need to stop, just
let me know,
alright honey?
I nodded. We drove along,
passing through
a few more towns.
We played music on the
radio and sung
really loudly. I felt
so free for the first time in
a long while. I was
genuinely happy.
I could be on the road with
Summer forever and
not mind it a single
bit. I was happy with her.
I knew I still needed
to track down Jack,
though. How I would do that
was all beyond me.
I leaned on Summer.
"I hope we can find my brother
soon, you know? I'm
worried that something
is wrong with him and that we
can't help him at all."
That wasn't a hundred
percent true, though. I didn't feel
like he was in any trouble
at all. I just felt bliss. It
was so strange to me.
I know, Acey. Don't
be so worried about it.
Right now, I really wasn't
extremely worried
about anything at
all. I felt so blissful and free.
I felt that I was able
to march fully to
a different kind of beat.
