15: Date

Leah’s Point of View

The rays of the sun wake me. I open my eyes then yawn.

Yes, I am home. We arrived last week. But, we haven’t told them we’re in a relationship again.

My phone rings. I blindly reach for it on my table, answering it blindly, too.

“Yah?”

[Good morning, babe.]

His voice made me sit up.

“Clark?”

[Yes, babe. This is Clark Sanford, your one and only.]

I giggle. I jump off my bed then head to my bathroom. “Why are you calling, anyway?”

He didn’t answer at first. All I can hear is his sigh and breathing.

[You don’t want me to?]

I get my toothbrush, put toothpaste on it then brush it on my teeth.

[Leah, if you don’t want me to call you, then I’ll just hang up.]

I spit then gargle and spit.

“It’s not like that, Clark. It’s just that, it’s not like you to call me. I thought there’s an emergency.” I said while walking out of the bathroom.

[Nah. There’s no problem.]

I get out of my room and close the door behind me. I was about to step on the staircase but the form of Clark standing down there together with my brother with his back turned on my direction made me stop on my tracks. My brother glanced at me then flashed me a teasing grin.

“Oh! Ayan na pala fiance mo, bayaw!”

My eyes widen in shock. I sprinted down the stairs. “Fiance?! Bayaw?!”

“Yeah. We’re engaged, right?” he asked, cocking his head to the right, flashing his innocent look.

What is he talking about? We are not yet engaged! Kakabalikan pa nga lang namin, engaged na agad?

Wait, he’s not planning to propose to me right now, is he? Yiee! Sweet naman! Sa harap pa ng kuya ko!

“Just kidding.” Clark added, chuckling. I frowned at him and later his chuckle evolved to a loud laugh then my brother joined him.

I got pissed. I smack his forearm, rolling my eyes as I stomp back to my room. Clark followed, apologizing. But, before he could even enter my room, I immediately closed the door loudly and locked myself inside my room.

“Hey, babe! I’m sorry! I did not think you would be pissed! I’m sorry!”

I just ignored him. Hmmph! Bahala siya diyan! Manigas siya kaka-sorry. Akala niya magandang manloko?! Paasa siya! Tangna, umasa ako! Shet siya! Nag-expect ako! Pwe!

“Leah naman. Sorry na oh.”

I slowly open the door. “Yah, don’t do that again.” I said. He hugged me.

“Yes, babe.” He let go. “Get ready, baby. We’re going on a date.” he said, winking at me.

“Date?”

He nods. “‘Yun naman kasi talaga pinaalam ko eh. Ewan ko ba kay kuya mo at tinawag ka niyang fiance ko. Naki-ride in lang naman din ako.”
