That day, even though I didn't want to, I went to school half day. I couldn't stand being at home with that monster.
I had left the house early, but went around shopping to calm down my nerves. Shopping had always relaxed me, and that time wasn't an exception. I purchased a couple new dresses, I needed new tops anyways.
Lunch was just finishing when I got to school, and just like always, I had my clique of girls hanging around me. Except that clique didn't include Hanna anymore.
I was quite popular, not exactly the most sought after- that position was occupied by Stephanie and her squad of hoes. But my clique had quite a few girls, some of which I had rarely ever talked to, yet they hung around me.
Hanna and I were mainly the centre, and girls like Olivia, Chloe, Natasha and Holly would have lunch with us, and share small talk and gossip. I can safely say that none of the girls were dangerous or suspicious. The girls I knew were all sweet and nice, so I was safe from any emotional harassment that could bring down my self-confidence.
On any other day, I would be sitting on our usual lunch table next to Hanna, and Holly, the talkative one, would be strewing out the latest news like she had memorised it. Olivia would roll her eyes as Chloe would interrupt the news report to complain about which geek hit on her today; she was quite attractive with natural reddish orange hair and light freckles. Natasha would be munching on her salad and gulping down a horrid liquid, claiming she was on a 'cleanse'.
But today was different. I felt no inclination to even take a seat, knowing the one beside me would be empty. I had no one to laugh with as we both thought of the same dirty joke when Chloe talked about the crooked teeth the guy who tried to ask her out had.
As soon as lunch finished, I literally ran away from the girls and avoided bumping into any teachers who would be taking my classes for the rest of the day. I intended to wag every lesson today and I didn't want any teacher calling up my dad to report me missing.
I safely reached my destination; the school rooftop.
I didn't usually go there, but I knew it was the place with least people. Heck, I was told that most students even forgot about it exists.
The flat square of concrete that spread out in front of me as I entered through the door was grey and overlooked the school's oval. Currently, it was empty since classes were running.
I slid down and leaned against the railing that started from the ground and rose about a metre and a half up to help avoid anyone from falling over.
Not even two minutes later, the door burst open and an irritated Xavier shot in.
It looked like he was expecting himself to be alone up here, so when he saw me, surprise flickered on his face before it returned to exasperation.
"Guilt eating you up?"
What?
Of all the things he could have said, that was one I didn't imagine.
"What?" I was genuinely confused. There's no way he could be talking about this morning, he doesn't know about Hanna.
"You fucked up man," he stated. "Fucked it all up big time."
"What the hell are you on about?"
"Don't act clueless! That was a bitch move and you know it!" his strong voice boomed as it echoed around the empty space.
I winced. Was he actually talking about this morning?
I looked down shamefully. Whatever I had said this morning was nothing to be proud of.
