~ooooOOOoooo~
"Cam, I'm in no position to decide that for you. Think about it, about Xavier, about yourself and about your history together. I'm sure you'll figure it out and choose the right thing."
I sighed. Why did I expect her to give me a straight up answer?
"Look, I've got to go. Mom will be here any minute and I still have to finish packing.
I grunted and tossed an apple in the air before catching it.
Ending the call, I turned on the recorder app and played the most recently recorded file.
"The company will be taken away from me, and without me, Anderson Inc. is done for. You centred your studies around business and without our company, you won't have a job."
I threw the mouldy fruits and the expired bread into the bin. Lots of the groceries in his kitchen were probably going to be off by now.
'Idiot left the window open,' I mentally smacked him as I shut it closed and pushed in the lock.
Was he trying to get robbed?
"Son, you need Anderson Inc. for your job and me to smoothly run it until the time comes."
If grandpa got arrested, his property would get confiscated, putting a halt to Anderson Inc. One well known fact about the business world is that if you take a pause, you are doomed.
But won't that mean grandpa is the wrong person to run it in he first place? A liar, deceiver, and now a murderer as the CEO of a flourishing business.
Does that sound right?
"You decide; your friend, or your future."
"I'm such an idiot to even have had to think about what the right choice is," I couldn't believe it took me a while.
Jumping into my car, I dialled the police station.
"Set up a visitor meeting with Xavier Lauckner. I'm Cameron Anderson, I've visited before," I instructed the officer.
"How long before you arrive?" he asked in a bored, monotonous tone.
"I'm in the car, I should be there in about five."
"Mr Anderson, are you on the phone while driving?" it seemed I caught his interest now.
I glanced at the cell being held against the windshield by a car mount.
"Chill dude, you're on speaker and I've got both my hands on the wheel."
"Well, I certainly hope so, Mr Anderson or-"
"Look, I'll be there in a few minutes. You think you can hold up till then?" I growled frustratedly before hanging up.
"Name."
"Camer-"
"Cameron Anderson, you're here to see Xavier Lauckner?" the officer behind the desk guessed.
He was different from the one on the phone; his voice was friendlier.
I nodded. "In that room, I suppose?" I pointed to the door down the corridor where we were in last time we talked with Xave.
"Go right ahead. You know the rules, right?"
I gave a single nod and rushed inside the room.
"Cameron?" Xavier's voice was hoarse. A light stubble was growing and his eyes were shadowed with dark, tired circles. He clearly hadn't slept at all.
