~ooooOOOoooo~
"So..." Xavier's narrowed eyes glanced between Kyle and me, waiting to catch one of us shift even in the slightest.
Kyle didn't budge, he sat on the couch with a leg lazily crossed over the other.
"Who wants to explain what he's doing here?" he gave a pointed look to his brother who simply brushed off the question.
"Eh, Cameron? You wanna have a go?" Kyle pushed the responsibility onto me. A bored expression was painted on his face as he examined his fingers.
"Sure," I agreed and fixed a serious look on Xavier. "Kyle here was exiting the pol-"
"Ahh thank you Cameron, I'll take over from here," Kyle quickly interrupted and shot me a glare.
I smirked in return. I wasn't planning on making things easy peasy for him just because he helped me out of a granddaddy crisis.
"Basic story; I'm crashing here tonight," he shrugged.
"What?!" Xavier was horrified. "No you're not. You are not sleeping under my roof."
Kyle snorted. "It's not like I'm planning to steal the ceiling of your room; I just need a place to stay for tonight."
"For that purpose, we have an invention called 'a hotel'. Ever heard of one?" Xavier air quoted.
"You think I'm loaded? Thanks but no thanks, I don't plan on blowing my vacation savings on a room."
Xavier growled and Kyle challenged him with the mischievous glint in his dull blue eyes.
The tension grew between them just as quickly as the silence did.
"Remember that time you two went camping and couldn't survive so you had to check in at a hotel in the middle of the night?"
Both of their glares against each other turned to fix on me.
'Doofus. Stories of the past don't break tensions,' I mentally noted.
"Nope, don't remember at all," Xavier replied. "Actually, I don't remember doing anything with this guy."
Hurt flickered in Kyle's eyes for the briefest of seconds while Xavier's gaze was not on him.
"Okay, now you're just fucking things up, Xave," I got serious. "I invited him. He needs a place for the night. Would it hurt your couch if he slept on it for a few hours?"
"Inviting him to my place? If you felt pity for this big loser, why didn't you just take him to your condo?"
He got me there, but I didn't show it. "I was on my way here, so I dragged him with me and thought maybe you'd be man enough to let him stay."
After a brief, contemplating pause, Xavier sighed defeatedly. "Only tonight."
Kyle smirked and got up, stretching his arms above his head. "Well that was an exhausting interrogation. I'll be in the shower if you need me."
I snorted. "That won't be necessary."
Just for the kicks, Xavier snided as well. "Can I pray for you to drown in there?"
"One can't drown in an open drained shower, little brother," Kyle replied, completely deadpanned.
Once he was out of earshot, I sighed for the millionth time and turned the Xbox on. I kicked off my shoes and swung my legs over the arms of the armchair.
"How long has it been?" I asked without tearing my eyes away from the game.
"Five loong years," Xavier drawled.
