~ooooOOOoooo~
The soft patter of the light drizzle outside made me groan. I had no choice; it was either get out there or starve tonight.
I grabbed a hooded jacket and pulled on my shoes.
'Better make it quick,' I resolved. My kitchen was near empty, it seemed like even instant noodles had never entered the cupboards.
I pulled the hood over my head and shoved my hands in the jacket's pockets as I quickened my pace along the sidewalk.
It was eight in the evening, and not many people were in sight.
I heard a screech as a sleek black car slid next to the sidewalk to drive by my side.
I groaned when I recognised whose Porsche it was.
"Oi!" Joshua lowered his tinted window.
I fastened my pace and he picked up a little bit of speed.
"She's the girl, huh?" he smirked.
"How did you even find her?" I had never mentioned Grace or any of her features, so how did he fish her out?
"Surprisingly, I didn't," he admitted. "She almost came running into my arms. Funny how karma has her own ways to get back at ya, right?"
"Leave her alone," I growled.
"Now why would I do that? Especially after I made a commitment to you back then; I'm a man of my word."
"What the fuck are you on about now?"
"Allow me to refresh your memory."
"The jackass is you. You're stringing her on, aren't you? She feels she still has a chance. You won't make it clear because the next person who gets her after you is me, and you don't want that," he sneered.
"Are you kidding me right now?" I didn't feel the need to turn this into a physical fight, that's how stupid it was. "I freaking broke up with her, how much more of a clarification do the two of you need?"
"If you're so sure you've given her a clear answer, then why won't she drop you?"
My eyes widened with realisation as his promise rang back at me. Back then, it sounded like a harmless little joke.
"If she doesn't get it soon, you'd want to watch out. I want to drill a lesson in you as well, and what I'll be teaching you will probably hurt."
"It's lesson time," he smirked.
"You just want to play around with us a bit," I concluded. "But you won't get your fun. Grace isn't going to fall for your good boy act."
At least, I hoped she wouldn't. I had known Joshua for many years and as a son of a wealthy family, he had mastered the art of deception.
"I've got her wrapped around my pinky," he twirled his little finger. "She's almost like a damsel in distress; at least, she was when I saved her from perverted thugs."
"What?" my eyes widened. She never mentioned anything like that.
He smirked. "She didn't tell you? That she almost got raped and was saved by a stranger?"
How could she hide something like that from me? I thought she trusted me, and that we were getting closer. Was I just imagining all of it?
"You proved your point, now stay away from her."
"Just watch, Cameron. I'll take over Grace's thoughts just as much as you took over my Eleanor's," he narrowed his eyes into that of a predator's. "Have a taste of what it feels like when the girl you gave everything to won't even spare you a glance."
