Chapter X - Her Ruin

"Is it true...?" Margarita, Adrian's mother's voice were as gentle as how she remembers it to be even though it is already husky because of falling so ill.

She had just been confined to the hospital again. How ironic could it be that just after the announcement of her engagement that she gets an attack again.

Gabrielle looks at the ageing woman in front of her. The grace in her face had long been gone because of the strong radiation she is receiving from her chemotherapy. The glint in her eyes are now replaced with weakness and sadness unlike when she was younger and she'd have fun with them--Ade, her and his sisters. They were like siblings, she has always been one of them. This woman has always been there for her that she could even call her mom.

Shakily, Margarita reaches out for her hand.

"Is it...decided by your dad...?" She asks looking at her face. She couldn't let her worry like this and she knows she couldn't lie to her as well.

"It is...because of me? Or Ade...?"

"N-no!!! No, don't say that..." She lies holding her hand into hers as tears start to show in her eyes.

"Don't make us your priority, Gab... Be happy..." Margarita says as her thumb caresses the back of Gab's hand.

"You don't have to sacrifice your life for us....for me... I'm dying anyway..."

"No...! Don't say that!!! You're not going to die..." Gab leans closer embracing the older woman she considers her second mom.

"You can't die... Mom already left me... I didn't even see her before she died... Don't do this to me... Don't do this to me." She cries on her chest as the painful memory flashes back to her mind.

10 years ago...

"Fuck that old man!!! Is he really just abandoning his brat?!" One of her kidnappers spat looking at her direction. Gabrielle looks away trying not to show them how much she's already trembling. She has been kept in this old garage in the middle of nowhere in the countryside in London for more than a day now. She is starving, but more than that, she is rattling inside thinking what would happen to her in the next hour.

Yesterday, she was abducted by two scary men in black while she was out on a field trip with her classmates.

There are total of five of them now. All eyeing her like she's a prey.

Last night, they called her father asking for a billion dollar ransom from him. Gabriel Davis demanded to hear his daughter's voice to be sure she was safe, but they instead just showed him a video of one of them dragging her to her knees with a gun on her temple.

"Who do you think you are to demand?! We hold your daughter's life, Davis! Obey everything we say and you'll hear her voice again." Her mouth was duct taped and they are constantly pushing and throwing her to the ground as they curse her father... As they rant on how her father pushes them to do this after taking the power from their business.

That time, she wasn't sure what kind of business it was that they are ranting about. Later on, she finds out that her father took over the management of the casino hotel they have built by buying shares in different names, pressuring the financial status of the casino until it goes bankrupt and owning it at the end...kicking all its original management out to build his own empire.

It was already one hour before the given time for Gabriel Davis to show up with the ransom money in hand. They direction was for him to go alone... Gabrielle knows what they are planning. They would kill him and take her...

"We will make use of you... Your father took all of our cards. We'll take away his Barbie girl in exchange. Fair enough...yeah?" The guy with a scar on his face looks menacingly at her as he runs the tip of the gun on her arms.
