Chapter 57: The Last Stand

The walker groaned. It was a man at one point. He had a life. That life had been ripped away from him by the undeath pandemic. It had ripped lives away from all of us. But, at the same time, it had given us new ones. Second chances.

I landed a bullet in the walker's face as we drew closer to the mansion. I was getting real tired of walkers. I had put up with enough crap from them. Now, it was time to give that crap back.

We came around the back side, seeing as the front entrance was flooded with walkers. We went through the shed, but were startled to find it locked shut, with a shovel in the handle. I heard rumbling coming from the inside.

"YOU MOTHERF***ERS!" I heard Kenny shout from inside. I quickly pulled the shovel out of the handle and opened the door. Kenny was standing there with a black eye and cuts on his arms...in an empty shed.

"What the-" I started.

"They f***ed us!" Kenny shouted.

"What?" I shouted back at him. There was no way. We had worked way too hard for that boat. "WHO?"

"Vernon!" He yelled, slamming his hand on the wall. "He didn't have Clem, so where the f*** is she?!"

"With someone else." I replied. "We're going after her."

"F***!" Kenny ran around kicking and punching the walls of the shed. He had a lot to let off steam for. "Just...da**it!"

Omid ran his hand over his head, not understanding what Kenny had said. "Wait...the cancer patients did this?"

"Yeah." Kenny leaned against the wall of the shed. "They were waitin'. Tired of living underground, I guess. They kicked the sh** out of me and tossed me in here to die." Kenny sighed and looked down at the ground, on the way he noticed my arm was missing. "Wait! What the hell happened to you?!"

"Cut it off."

"Seriously?!"

"Yeah." I closed my eyes. I felt light-headed, but I couldn't allow myself to pass out now. "I lived through it, which is a start. And well, I thought it might buy me some time. You know, get that bite off my body, and hopefully whatever's gonna happen takes longer."

"Da**..." Kenny exclaimed sadly.

Christa spoke up, after a few moments of silence. "Omid, can you go over the fence and let us into the back yard? We shouldn't be out here in the open."

"Yeah." He agreed. He left and hopped over the fence. Omid was very light on his feet for someone who had just got off of a hospital bed.

"This is not happening..." Kenny muttered under his breath. "Everything is so f***ed..."

"Clementine is still out there." Christa told him.

Kenny looked up to her angrily. "So we get Clementine, and then what?"

"We get the hell out of cities!" She exclaimed. "I'm done with cities. We go into the countryside and make a go of it."

"That sounds like a good idea to me." Ben agreed.

"No one asked you!" Kenny yelled at him.

"You just did!" Ben complained.

Kenny scowled at the boy. "Don't get f***ing smart with me, Ben."

"Chill." Christa told him.

"Does anyone remember we had a boat?" Kenny shouted, turning around, annoyed with the situation. "A boat!"
