I woke up to the sound of laughing and the smell of bacon and eggs. I felt completely confused by the scent when suddenly I remembered my mum turned up last night. I knew she would be up for the funeral but I didn’t think I would see her until the actual funeral later on today. I would have liked some type of warning but I guess that’s the way my family works. We just like coming out of nowhere. I peeled my blankets off me and opened my door slightly.
“How do you know my daughter?” I heard my mother ask.
“He's in a band that she likes” I heard Derek’s voice.
‘Did he know she was coming?’ I questioned.
“Oh! What’s your band called?” she asked.
“5 Seconds of Summer”
“Does that mean something?” she asked.
‘Oh, mother’ I groaned to myself.
“Not really” Ashton laughed.
I walked out my door and into the kitchen to see the boys sitting at the table with my mother. This is a sight I never thought I would see.
“Morning sweetheart” she greeted cheerfully.
I’m not going to lie, I miss hearing her voice in the morning.
“Morning” I replied shyly as I walked to the fridge. I reached into the cool and pulled out juice and an apple.
“There’s food on the table” she smiled. I smiled back before kindly declining her offer “Same old Shannon” I heard her mumble. I took a seat at the table with my juice and smiled awkwardly.
“So, I was thinking we could spend time together before the funeral while the boys run some errands” she smiled.
I looked to Ashton, “Are you okay with that?” I asked him.
He nodded; “It’s no biggie I’ll call Calum and see if he wants to join” he smiled.
“Okay” I replied, “I guess it’s you and me…”

“So this is where you’ve been working” my mum smiled as she walked into the store. I nodded as I shut the door behind me. “Wow…” she whispered, “I remember when you would show us your little designs when you were in year 7, sketches of dresses” I watched as she wove in and out of the racks and down the little aisles.
“This is gorgeous” she smiled as she held up a pink floral dress from my new summer line.
“Thank you” I replied.
She walked over to the big posters I had of the boys to the side of the store and stood there for a minute. “I had breakfast with that boy!” she pointed excitedly. I laughed at her excitement before I joined her.
“That’s Ashton, Calum, Michael and Luke” I pointed to each of their photos.
“Is he supposed to have pink hair?” she asked with a chuckle.
“Yes…” I answered.
“But it’s changed to a bleach blonde with a black strip down the middle” I informed her.
“He would look like a racing car wouldn’t he?”
I laughed at her, “Something like that”
I continued to show her the store and different pieces that are my favourites. She tried on a couple that she wants to take home and then began showing me photos of our home and how she’s been renovating it since my dad and her split.
