Flashback
Time: Sunday Afternoon
Location: Rogers House - KitchenEaster picked up the wet plate and dried the piece of crockery off with a dish cloth. She looked out of the window into the backyard. Lauren, Benjamin and Channing sat at the picnic table all in conversation while Casey chased the toddler around the garden. She had insisted on doing the dishes because she found it therapeutic. It was strange but she found herself smiling at the site of Casey with the child.
"You know, you should give him a chance."
Easter placed the plate down on top of the the stack of already dried plates and turned to face the owner of the voice. John stood with his arms folded and an amused smile on his face. He nodded out the window towards Casey outside the window. Easter tilted her head to the side and looked back out the window.
"I have..."
"I don't mean the fling you both seem to think you can keep a secret from me. He deserves better and I think he will be good for you."
Easter looked back at the older man. True she and Casey had been spending time together outside of the office. He was attractive and they were both adults. Easter found herself enjoying his company more and more. There was one problem, the Forensic Scientist had commitment issues. John had spent the better part of their friendship trying to get Easter to settle down.
"He is very good looking." She said with a nod and some serious consideration. It was at that point Casey walked in. He looked between Easter and John before walking over to the refrigerator and grabbing a beer before turning back to the two. "What are we talking about?" He asked taking a sip of his beer.
"John thinks it would be a good idea for us to... in popular terms 'go steady'." Easter said in a matter-of-fact tone. Casey took another swig of beer and then grinned, "Possibly the smartest thing to ever come out of his mouth I'd say."
''Hey watch it rookie."
End Flashback
"So what do you got for me?"
"What's wrong?"
It took Easter a while to register Casey's voice. She was studying the area around the body looking for anything that stood out. It was a rainy afternoon but the street would have been busy when the body was dumped. It did not follow the same pattern as the other murders where the bodies were left to be found until later.
Easter turned to Casey and shook her head. She couldn't say much, not with this many reporters in earshot. "I don't understand." Easter said, her voice dropping to barely audible. "It's not consistent. All the other murders were consistent." She mumbled. Her face was creased with worry. The idea of a copy cat killer did not sit well with her.
The rest of the Forensic team arrived and set to work setting up cover just in case the rain started. They started bagging evidence to take back to the lab for processing. Easter couldn't say much to Casey or Benjamin because neither of them were the detectives in charge of the investigation. There were procedures and the slight panic of there being another killer made Easter even more OCD.
"I didn't know you would be back at work today." She said suddenly to Casey, "You should take the time that was given to you." She was not surprised to find out that Benjamin was being assigned as Casey's new partner.
