"You don't have to go with me you know" Lupin said
"I'm okay" said Teddy, smiling
"This mission could be dangerous" Lupin said
"I'll be fine" Teddy said "They will smell the werewolf in me, so they won't attack me. Besides full moon is a week away."
The two of them were lounging on a dingy pub north of Surrey waiting for someone. The Order received information about a small group of werewolves living in the outskirts and Lupin was sent to talk to them. Despite Lupin's refusal, Teddy went with him.
"Does it bother you?" asked Lupin after sometime "To have a werewolf gene pass on to you?"
"I don't transform dad. I actually benefited from it. "Teddy said "I have better sense of smell than normal people. And I can run a bit faster than my colleagues. Of course that is if I don't trip or bump into anything."
"Aren't you worried of what others might say?" Lupin asked again
"Not when most of my friends envy me for having you as a father" said Teddy simply
"Your friends must not be in their right mind" Lupin commented
"It's hard not to be envious if your friend's father is a Merlin First class war hero" Teddy answered
"I don't think being named as such would erase the fact that I transform into a monster once a month" Lupin rebutted
"You're not a monster Dad, you just have a little problem" Teddy said
"Little problem?" Lupin repeated, surprised
"Yeah that's what Uncle Harry calls it" said Teddy, smiling. "Besides, my friends don't take it against you. They think it's very cool, the way you managed to live a pretty normal life even though you had it. Not everyone does"
Lupin did not say anything but merely stared.
"Did I mention the future is different?" Teddy continued.
Lupin took a sip from his drink before answering "Yeah. But I reckon some things remains the same"
"Not when Uncle Harry, Uncle Ron and Aunt Hermione had their way with it" said Teddy "It was their doing that most injustices were stopped in our time. Voldemort gave free reins to the werewolves led by Greyback." Lupin clenched his fist at that "Many, especially children, were bitten and turned into a werewolf and since not all of them were killed during the war, many had the affliction. Aunt Hermione passed a law that would give them a normal life."
"Normal life?" Lupin said disbelieving
"Those who are bitten are employed by the ministry and children who wish to study at Hogwarts are accepted without having to keep their problem from other children. Wolfsbane potions are also available in the market. That way they can transform without losing their humanity" Teddy explained.
"Aunt Hermione did really made use of her position as the head of Department of Magical Law Enforcement" Teddy continued when Lupin did not say anything. "Although it wouldn't have made any difference if the wizards and witches aren't that open minded. It is actually thanks to you that people changed their mind."
"Me?" Lupin asked
"Those who fought with Uncle Harry during the war could not forget easily how you fought against Voldemort." Teddy said "And besides, most of the grownups in our time were your students before. You must have made a big impression on them." Teddy laughed.
