April 23, 2006.
I rush out of my house, sobbing uncontrollably.
Once again, I had another nightmare and my dad was at a random meeting downstate, no surprise there.
I was supposed to go out to dinner with Ema and her family later, so I decided to take a nap, but I completely forgot to take my medicine. As a result, I had another bone-chilling nightmare that had me screaming once I woke up.
I run down the streets, not stopping until Emi's house came into view, even when I twisted my ankle in a muddy and cold puddle I continued to run.
I slam open the front door, knowing that her parents were over at a friend's until dinner and climb straight up the stairs and into her room. When I burst through the door, Emi screams and falls off her neatly made bed.
"What the-"She shouts in shock and immediately stands up with a confused face.
I stare at her as she looks at me in shock and another sob escapes my mouth as I run into her arms. She quickly understands that I'm not okay and she doesn't speak, backing the both of us up until we fall onto her bed.
She strokes my hair, hugging me tightly to herself as she whispers calm words into the silence that envelops us, the only other sounds in the room being my sobs as she continues to calm me with her soft voice. There's another thing that I love about her, she's always there to listen, she knows when to speak or when not to. When I need comforting, and when I just need her with me.
She understands me.
After almost an hour of more crying, she silently helps me up and we both sit on the edge of her bed, her arm tightly wrapped around my own.
"You wanna talk about it?" She whispers as I lay my head on her shoulder and she lightly kisses it.
I slowly shake my head and try to blink away the images that start appearing in my mind.
"Okay." She speaks softly, kissing my forehead again and I hum in content before snuggling more into her shoulder.
We stayed quiet until an alarm on her phone broke the comfortable silence in the room and she has to pull away to turn it off. She smiles at me softly as she places her phone down and pats my shoulder after standing up.
"I love you, but it's about half an hour until dinner so you're gonna borrow some of my clothes, and you're gonna let me do your makeup cause, to be honest with you sweetheart. . ." She gives me a once over, "You look like my last break up."
I laugh at her effort to brighten the mood and nod my head softly as a sweet smile spreads across her face.
the next half hour consists of Emi forcing me into every article of clothing she owns, her accidentally stabbing my eye with mascara, and then her flipping out because she spent too much time on fixing me up and had only ten minutes to get ready.
I laugh as she runs around her room looking for a sock to match her other one. I play with the hem of the yellow sundress she let me borrow. I also have on a dark wash jean jacket and some combat boots, thank god we had the same shoe size, and she made me put my hair into a tight and high ponytail.
"Where is it!" She grumbles and throws a pair of shoes over her shoulder, almost hitting me in the face, "Do you see it anywhere?"
I look at her like she's crazy, then take my glasses off, making sure to look over-exaggerated as I clean them with the end of my dress, and look up at her. She rolls her eyes but I look pointedly at her and continue. Once I put them back on I look around once and then take a deep breath.
