Chapter 10 - Envy
What is that awful noise?
Get rid of it.
Ew, I hear...
Pop music?
But first...Let me take a selfie.
A groan leaves the tired girl's mouth before her head falls back against her pillow, choosing to ignore the sound for some much-needed rest. However, it seems to know that Sophia wants more sleep, the sound growing louder and louder the more she tries to ignore it.
A louder groan leaves her mouth as Sophia sits up from bed, grabbing her phone to get rid of the horrid sound that's already ruining her morning.
"What?" She draws out, throwing her legs over the side of her bed, rubbing the sleep from her eyes.
"Sophia Elizabeth Smith, where are you!?" Emi's screech comes ringing through the phone, Sophia wincing and immediately pulling the device from her ear in order to avoid permanent damage to her hearing.
"What do you mean?" Sophia asks, annoyed that her best friend woke her up only to yell into her ear.
"Do you even know what time it is!?" Sophia rolls her eyes at Ema's incredulous tone and massages the back of her neck with her hand as she thinks.
"I guess six or something." She sighs, standing up and making her way to her desk to sit instead of her comfortable bed.
"Try Nine! Sophi, school already started!"
Sophia freezes from playing with her open notebook, eyes growing wider than a basketball as she quickly pulls her phone away from her face to see that it is in fact 9:15.
Oh shit.
"Sophia, you better be down here soon, I can't make any more excuses for your other teachers," Emi's urgent tone almost matches the anxiety that is suddenly injected into Sophia's veins. She goes from feeling drowsy to being wide away as she rushes to her closet, searching for a quick outfit she can comfortably wear and sprint in.
"Great, thanks, by!" Sophia shouts before promptly hanging up on her loud friend.
"Wai-"
Throwing on a simple nirvana hoodie and some leggings, Sophia makes her way out of her bedroom, rushing into her bathroom to grab a ponytail and her contacts. Screaming in frustration, she drops her contacts and throws on her old glasses from middle school, the thick rims almost blocking a quarter of her view as she makes her way downstairs, skipping the last three steps and almost falling to her death in the process. Throwing on some blocky sneakers Sophia sprints out of the empty house, slamming the door shut before running down the sidewalk.
Trying to steady her breathing as she runs, Sophia ignores the odd glares sent her way as she runs down the street, almost tripping on a tree root before finally hitting the steps of the school entrance. Flinging the doors open, Sophia smiles nervously at the secretary, briefly asking for a slip before making her way down the halls as quickly as she can without being yelled at by the teachers strangling about.
Opening the door to her third-period class with Ms. Purchase, Sophia flinches as it slams against the wall beside her, the room automatically going silent as all eyes land on her, gaping at her appearance.
