2) Awkward Dinner, Did You Say?

Later that day, after I had finally calmed down after my embarrassing dance routine had been seen, I was downstairs helping my father get the TV set up when there was a knock at the door.

'I'll get it!', I heard my mother call, as she went to answer it.

Too engrossed in trying to set up the TV ( I really wanted to watch some episodes of 'The Big Bang Theory' ), I didn't notice who my mother was talking to.

A few minutes later she came into the room and announced, 'Well we're not ordering Chinese food for dinner anymore.'

'Aw!', I complained, 'Why not?'

'That was just our neighbour at the door', Mam explained.

I froze at the word 'Neighbour'.

'Anyway she just wanted to welcome us to Lima and invite us over for dinner', Mam continued, 'She said that she knows how chaotic it is to move, because she moved from Australia with her three boys only last year. Her name is Gina, Gina Brooks.'

'Well that's nice', Dad smiled, 'What time are we going over?'

'Around 5', Mam replied, 'I'm so glad to have such a nice neighbour. What do you think Lauren, you have three teenage boys as neighbours.'

'Don't encourage her!', Dad joked, 'She's still my little girl. Right Laur?'

'Laur?', Mam asked, worried when I didn't answer.

I had kinda zoned out when I had heard that the neighbours were three boys, they HAD to be the guys that had seen me dancing.

'Uh, yeah', I replied, eventually, giving a weak smile, 'Great.'

So after Dad and I got the TV working, I went upstairs to try to resurrect some nice clothes to wear to dinner ( I never got to see 'The Big Bang Theory' ).

Eventually I managed to dig out some semi-decent jeans and a blue long-sleeved top. I didn't want to seem too dressed up, but not too casual either.

'Lauren', I heard my mother call, just as I had finished brushing my hair, 'It's time to go.'

'I'm coming', I replied, as I skipped down the stairs,

'Lets go', Dad said, and we walked out of the house.

A few minutes later we were standing outside the Brooks house, waiting for someone to answer it after Mam had knocked on the door.

'GET THE DOOR YOU FAGGOT!', a boy's voice roared from inside.

'I'M BUSY! YOU GET THE FUCKING DOOR!', another guy's voice ( nearly identical to the first's ) exclaimed in response.

'Boys! Mind your language!', a woman, with a really strong Australian accent, scolded before the door opened and a woman with brown hair smiled at us and said, 'Welcome! Welcome! Please come in!'

'Thank you Gina', Mam smiled at the woman, stepping into the house, 'Thank you again for inviting us.'

'No problem!', Gina replied, as Dad and I walked through the front door.

'I'm Jack', Dad said, holding out his hand out, 'It's lovely to meet you.'

'You too', Gina replied, shaking his hand, before looking at me, 'And what's your name sweetie?'

'L-Lauren', I stuttered, shaking her hand.

'Lauren, what a pretty name', Gina smiled, 'It's lovely to meet you.'

'You too', I whispered, giving her a shy smile.

'Please make yourselves at home and I apologize for the mess, bringing up three teenage boys isn't the easiest thing you know', Gina said, leading us into the kitchen, 'Take a seat, dinner should be ready in a minute.'

Mam, Dad and I went over to the long kitchen table. Planning to sit in between them I sat on the right side of the table. Dad sat at one side of me, but Mam took the seat beside him, so there was one spare seat beside me.

After a little small talk, Gina announced out the door, 'Dinner's ready!'

The sound of movement came from the next room, which I was guessing was the living room, immediately.

'The boys are always playing FIFA', Gina explained, just as two boys rushed into the room.

Sure enough, I recognized the two boys as two of the guys that had seen me earlier. What I hadn't noticed earlier though was that they were twins, identical twins.

'Gemma, Jack, Lauren these are two of my sons, Luke and Jai', Gina explained, 'Boys these are the O' Hanlons, they're out new neighbours.'

Recognition came across the twins faces as they looked at me.

Fearing that they would say something I blushed, but to my surprise they didn't, they just replied, in strong Australian accents, 'Nice to meet you.'

'Where's Beau?', Gina asked them, after they had taken their seats ( The guy that I thought was Jai sat beside me and the other, Luke,  sat beside him on the edge of the table).

'He's just dropping Skip and James home', Luke replied, just as the front door banged, 'That should be him now.'

'Good', Gina said, serving the dinner. (Spaghetti Bolognese).

A few minutes later the kitchen door opened and a guy with brown hair ( Like Gina and the twins ) entered.

'Dinner's just up Beau', Gina said, sitting down, 'These are our new neighbours by the way, The O' Hanlons.'

Beau looked at us, his green eyes piercing mine, and then he smirked and said, 'Hey, I'm Beau Brooks.'

'Well I'm Gemma', Mam explained, 'This is my husband Jack, and our daughter Lauren.'

'Oh I think we know Lauren already', Beau smirked, sitting down right across from me.

I could feel the twins looking down and start giggling under their breathe.

'Really? How?', Gina asked.

'Oh she gave me and the boys a little performance earlier', Beau winked at me, making me blush so hard I knew my face was bright red, 'Relight My Fire, right Lauren?'

'I, I was unpacking my things', I whispered.

'We apologize if she was making too much noise', Mam said to Gina, 'Laur loves her music and her singing.'

'Oh don't apologise', Gina laughed, 'I'm sure the boys can be a hundred times louder. So Lauren, what age are you?'

'Um, fifteen', I replied.

'The same as Luke and Jai!', Gina smiled, 'That means you're in the same year in High School as them. You're a Freshman, right?'

'Right', I replied, smiling at her.

She was such a nice woman, and even though I had thought they would be trouble, Luke and Jai seemed nice too. Beau on the other hand, the only word I could think of to describe him was 'Smartarse'.

'Lauren is actually starting at McKinley High tomorrow', Mam explained.

'Really? Well I'm sure the boys would be more than delighted to give her a ride and show her around', Gina replied.

'Yeah', Beau agreed, smirking over at me, 'We'd love to.'

I couldn't help but gulp. What was I going to be facing the next day?
