Chapter 7

━━━━━━━━━

She smiled as she sat down at her desk. The reasoning for this smile not being her new desk, or her new office, or even her new job. No. The reason behind her smile, the reason she had been off her game since the previous day, was none other than Blake Greenberg. This very person had made her, distracted, to say the least.

The kiss. She had replayed that moment a million times in her head since it happened. Clarity could barely remember a time before that. Let alone how she ended up at work this morning. She had probably walked past many a co-worker and brushed them off. Not on purpose, of course. But simply because she felt as though she was head over heels for someone she had been raised to loath with a passion. A passion so strong that her parents had been holding a grudge for even longer than she had been alive.

She couldn't be thinking of him, though. She had to focus. She had to prove herself worthy today. She had to show the company that she did belong here. That she wasn't simply given the job because of her father, but instead for her merit.

Clarity finally allowed herself to push the boy out of her mind, placing her hand over the mouse and turning on her computer. Her father couldn't find her day dreaming. Not on her first official day, and especially not about their competition. If he ever found out-

"Hey Clar." Andrew called happily as he strolled into the office, closing the door soundly behind him. He glanced from side to side, admiring his sister's and his own work well done. The two did make a good team when it came right down to it. Just look at how well his sister's office had turned out. All they had to do was pick out the furniture and they were right back here, making it into something he could be proud of. Making it somewhere Clarity could look forward to going to everyday.

"Hey." She breathed as she pulled herself out of her thoughts. Andrew frowned at her words. She seemed distant. Like she wasn't fully there. Almost like she had been off in another world just then. That wasn't like Clarity. She was almost always on her game. He had never seen his sister not getting something done. Come to think of it, he hadn't seen her smile for this long at a time without speaking instantly about what had her so happy. It was slightly creepy how she stared off into space, still holding a bright smile on her face.

"You okay?" He asked, the repulse at her attitude showing as he took a wary step towards her, setting his phone down on the desk his sister was seated behind. Her left eyebrow rose, the confusion written out clearly on her face.

"Why wouldn't I be okay?" She questioned, wondering just what her brother was getting at. "I just started this job, which, dad finally trusts me with, you helped me make this beautiful office, and, I just got a bunch of graduation presents." Andrew shook his head, keeping his eyes trained on her for any signs of something else behind her words.

"That still doesn't tell me why you're so sickly happy." Andrew went on, still not able to see really what had her going. Clarity huffed and stood from her desk, walking calmly over to the window and finding herself staring directly towards the Greenberg Enterprise building. She shook her head.

'Andy would catch on', she thought quickly. 'But if I look away to fast-'

"What are you looking at?" He asked, his voice hinting at something as he strode over to stand next to her. She closed her eyes, turning fast enough away from the window so Andrew wouldn't be able to find what she had found.
