Kaylee's POV

"John? John! Come back!"

My eyes widened as Paul raced after John, who was walking off.

Why did he hate me so much?

What did I do to him that made him act this way towards me?

I watched Paul as he followed John, who had started towards the door, but Paul grabbed his arm.

"No, John. Stop."

Paul's doe eyes stared into John's, overwhelmed with determination.

"I want this sorted out. Whatever this-" He gestured with his hands between John and I. "-is."

My breathing became deeper, nervous as to what it was John had against me.

Was it because I was stealing his best friends time?

Paul hadn't called me yet, but he did seem to be hanging out with me at lunch breaks.

I ran my hand through my wind-blown light brown hair as I watched John sigh, his eyes fighting the noticeable urge not to reach mine.

He was actually quite attractive - I had to hand it to him.

And every time I looked at him, he always already seemed to be looking at me.

"I don't know," He muttered, taking a step forward. "I just don't like her."

Paul's impish mouth twisted into a frown, folding his arms across his chest.

"Yeah, that's obvious," He groaned, turning around halfway to glance worriedly at me. "I wanna know why, though."

"Ask her." John simply stated, glancing me once in the eyes.

I tried to produce a mental note of how his eyes looked; hurt.

But.. why?

What could I have possibly done.

After a brief moment, John spun quickly on his heels and walked away from Paul and I, turning the corner and heading who knows where.

Paul turned around slowly and gave me an apologetic smile, just as he did the last time the three of us spoke.

"I'll get it out of him in the end, don't worry, love."

I gave him a small shrug and walked up to him, nudging him softly with my elbow.

"The only thing you need to do, is to smile more when you're around me," I said, giving him a forced grin. "Everything is always so grim.."
