Chapter 18

"Hey they're back!" Harriet yells as the Gladers, Jorge and Brenda reach The aright Arm.
"Thomas, good to see you again" Vince says coming over
"Yeah, it's great to be out of there. We found Gally at Wicked as well and he came with us"
"So did everyone make it?"
"Everyone but Newt, he's changed"
"Sorry to hear that Thomas"
"Thomas, Minho Gally!" Thomas's hears Frypan yell as himself and Aris come over and hug the boys.
"Hey Fry" Minho says
"Where's Newt?"
"He didn't make it, the Flare's changed him. He shot Thomas and everything" Gally says
"What, I didn't think it'd do that to him" Aris said
"Well it did but, we're gonna defeat Wicked in his honour. I owe him" Thomas says
"How do you owe him?" Teresa asked
"I was meant to kill him but let's forget about that. What's been happening here?"
"We've come up with a plan. Teresa was saying you are the last candidate and Wicked would do anything to have you back, so you'll be handing yourself over and putting a device somewhere in the building so we can blow it up after we attack them. We'll be driving you there and then you'll walk the rest of the way so it's not suspicious"
"Ok, so when do we start?"
"In two days, so you guys can settle in and rest up" Vince said
"Sounds like a plan" Minho said and we were lead to some dorms.

"So what happened to you guys, you supposedly escaped before us?" Gally asked
"Yeah, when Brenda told me what was going on, I gathered up Frypan and Aris and went back to your dorm but we couldn't find you guys anywhere" Teresa said
"How'd you fly the berg?" Thomas asked
"Getting your memories back does have a plus side to it" Frypan said
"You flew it?" Minho asked
"Yeah, he was a legend at it as well"
"Hang on a minute guys. We got those chip things out of our heads in Denver and they're meant to give you memories back. Why don't we have ours?" Gally asked
"Your right Gally, as much as I hate to say" Thomas laughs when Gally punches him in the arm.
"I think they did something extra to us, I don't know" Aris shrugged
"What about you guys?" Teresa asked
"Well, we went to Denver and Brenda was staying with Newt because she's part crank now but Thomas saved her so we didn't want to risk her getting taken so she stayed back. She found us the next day and said Newt had been taken" Minho said
"I hadn't seen Thomas run so fast in my life, he literally jumped up and didn't stop until he was inside that berg. The place was ransacked. Thomas then found a note from Newt saying that they took him to the Crank Palace" Gally explained
"So we went there the next day but weren't really welcomed. We told some guards to go and get Newt and he told them for us to bugger off but we don't shoo easily when we're on a mission. So we went in there and, just think of Newt as the crazy version of Gally kind of, as much as I hate to compare, that's what he was like. He shouted at us a bunch of times, telling me I was a disgrace and telling us to leave, that he belonged there and that he'd shoot us if he didn't. Well he still keeps his promises because he shot me with one of those grenade things. We then left after that, knowing Newt was actually gone" Thomas said
"We then got back on the berg and Thomas goes to the bathroom when we hear yelling a mirror smashing. We all run to the bathroom and open the door to see Thomas standing there crying saying he'd failed Newt. He then handed us a note which said 'Kill me. If you've ever been my friend, kill me' he wanted Thomas to kill him" Minho said
"And then Teresa found us" Gally concluded.
"Wow, that's a lot. I still can't believe Newt did that" Frypan said
"As I said, it wasn't him, he's changed"
