I rebelled against the restraint holding me chained to the wall for the fourth attempt at freedom. My wrist popped and I grunted in pain. Annoyed, I considered my options if I broke my hand to slip the cuffs and utilize my vampire healing abilities. But as young as I was, I wouldn't be able to recover as quickly as my brothers or parents. "Damn it," I growled, twisting around so I could brace my feet against the wall. I used my free hand to hold onto the chain and the circle of metal around my forearm. If I could pull the bolt free from the concrete, I could get the hell out of my personal dungeon. I pushed my feet against the wall and pulled, gritting my teeth as sharp pain seared through my wrist. I strained for several seconds, hoping to hear the cement budge and crackle.

Nothing.

"Oh, c'mon!" I snapped, shaking my wrist so the chain would jingle.

"You're not getting out of that. Unless, of course, you want to chew your arm off. Wouldn't be the first time someone's attempted it."

I glared over my shoulder, surprised to find Jason. I rolled my eyes, irked by his presence. "Y'know, for a guy who talked a big game about how we were 'fated' to find each other, I don't appreciate the role-play of dominant and submissive. I hate being tied up."

He smiled, hopping down the last of the steps to stand just beyond my reach. "You're a wolf. You should know it's all about dominance and submission. And in this room, I outrank you."

"I am not a wolf. I'm a vampire."

"You can change into the form of a wolf and you have the lycan-hybrid gene. You're Wolf, whether you like it or not," he chuckled. He crossed his arms over his chest. "Have you decided if you're going to play nice tonight, or are you going to have another temper tantrum?"

I sighed heavily, spinning back around so I was sitting parallel with the wall. "If you'll be nice, I'll be nice. But I can't promise how long it's going to last. What do you want from me? Last I was told, you people don't even like vampires."

Jason shrugged and came another step closer, uncrossing his arms to place his hands in his pockets. That's it, I thought, careful not to show any emotion on my face besides disdain and sarcasm. He paused again, his gaze roaming over my body and then my wrist.

"Because we think there could be a lucrative treaty as allies between your coven and my pack... You've got pressure marks. Keep that up and you'll have bruises." He didn't comment on my attire of the black silk camisole and matching shorts I was still wearing. But I knew he was thinking about it from the way his eyes lingered on my exposed skin.

I wrinkled my nose. "I'm aware of what wearing handcuffs can do if they're too tight and worn for too long," I shot back. "I'd love to put them on you and let you experience them yourself," I added sardonically.

Jason took another step to come closer, bending down so our faces were only a few inches apart. "I would love to see you try," he said slowly, his voice low.

I sprang into action, sweeping my leg out to hit the backs of his ankles. With my force, he fell back to the ground on his backside. "I tried. I win," I answered, unable to help the smirk that found my mouth.

Jason growled, getting back to his feet. He snatched my arm and hauled me to a stand, the chain keeping me from reaching my full height. His left hand grabbed my shoulder, pushing my head against the wall. Before I could get my free arm up to defend myself or try another attack, he had it pinned over my head by my wrist. The position hurt, stretching my shoulders too far and straining my back. His face was back close to mine, his indigo eyes staring at me intently. I could feel his body heat through the silk tank top. "I'm trying to play nice, sweetheart. I suggest you don't try that again. After your stunt last night, you're lucky you're even down here and not somewhere worse. And instead of giving you a nice, warm bed to sleep in, they'll leave you down here with the rats."
