I swallowed the lump in my throat, glancing at my cousins. Nikolas turned to Sarita and she grinned, slowly getting out of her chair in the same moment he did. He took her hand and they walked around the end of the table to join Eris and Alphonse. Gabriel and Krystal got up to join them.

They were already paired up. I guess I'm not dancing, I thought, my hands gripping my arms tighter.

"Mistress Serenity," I heard from behind me. The familiar scent of Tom rolled over me and I felt the sigh of relief leave me harder than I expected it to. When I looked at him, the redheaded guard smiled empathetically.

"Oh, no, Tom, that's okay. I don't need to be out there," I answered him.

He chuckled and shook his head. "Not with me, him," he said nodding back towards the dais.

I looked where he gestured to see Jason coming down the platform steps. As he stepped onto the ballroom floor again, he held out his hand towards me with a grin. Come on, this one's for us, he said silently.

I smiled at Thomas and nodded. "Thank you," I said to him before walking forward to meet Jason on the floor. He extended his arm to me and I took it, my other hand gathering the skirt of the twilight blue gown to follow him to a starting point. I've never danced this one before, I warned him.

It's pretty simple. You'll pick it up quickly. You're a good follower, he said in response, smiling at me again.

The music began to play a different song and I quickly looked around at the other couples on the floor. Maria had joined in on Peter's arm, two couples apart from Nikolas and Sarita as everyone positioned themselves in a large circle on the floor, the men closest to the middle with their backs to the circle. I scanned the crowd one more time to see Gabriel and Krystal not too far from their brother, Eris and Alphonse a few people down from them. I also noticed that most of the alphas and their mates were on the floor, but not Killian Page.

Thank god, I thought, my jaw clenching at the possibility of being anywhere near him again.

The song picked up and Jason turned me gently before we settled into the traditional hold. The melody was unfamiliar to me, but it seemed more modern than the usual waltz music. A man had stepped up to the microphone on a stand and began to sing in a soft, blues tenor voice:

"I know you wanna flex real bad. / You want to, you got it. / I hear you like to bag and brag. / You love it, you thug..."

Jason and I began to rotate on the floor in the usual dipping and rising waltz steps with the crowd, staying in unison with their steps. I felt the skirt of my dress swish around my calves with every gentle turn our bodies made. I followed each of his cues, still looking around at the other couples.

It'll be okay, Jason assured me silently. He pushed my hand away from his as we separated to stand side by side for one step before coming back together in perfect time with the others. When my hand connected with his again, we turned in a tight circle before he spun me once. Are you ready?

Ready for what?

We spun one more time around. Jason grinned at me and winked, spinning me under his arm again before using his stable hand to push my body away from his. In one step, I was in another man's arms as the male wolves passed their starting partners to the left.

Thanks for the warning, I thought, smiling at my new dancing partner. I did my best not to roll my eyes.

I'll see you again in a few minutes, Jason answered, a touch of a chuckle in his voice. You just keep charming everyone.
