Vraal leaned down to sit on the medical stool within the cluttered laboratory. Medical supplies were cast in multiple directions along the floors, haphazardly mixing with what had been left of the hybrid girl's blood. He sighed and covered his face with his hand. The titanium wedding band around his left ring finger was cold against his forehead and it made his next breath shake as it left his lungs.

She was gone. They were both gone.

"Sir, the master alpha has demanded Thomas's team clear this room and destroy all of the existing evidence. I thought you would want to know before the last of our samples are thrown into the fire," came the sound of one of his men from behind him.

The king alpha inhaled and exhaled again carefully, trying to hold himself together. If only it had gone the other way... The death of the hybrid would have nearly killed his son, but young love was just that: young love. He would be able to move on, find a true she-wolf within his heart. But for Vraal, there had only ever been Victoria: the proud and resilient Queen of the Wolves. There would be no replacing his mate, not for such a bond as strong as their thirty years together.

"Send it all to Page," he said at last.

"All of it, sir?" the man behind him asked. "What should we tell Master Jason? He will ask."

"Tell him it's been destroyed." Vraal looked up at the man, his indigo eyes having turned darker to a mix of purple and brown. "I've seen what one half-blood can do. And we have now seen what a true lycan looks like from her bloodline. I won't risk that power being held against us for the rest of the Pack's existence. Dead Men must die," he added, his voice hard. He leaned down further, his finger tracing through the sticky remnants of Mezdor blood on the floor. He stared at the dark, reddish brown stain as it blended with his skin. "I refuse to see the Pack bow to Shadow Stalkers again. They took our queen. We will take their power."

The guard nodded in agreement to the king alpha's command. "Yes, sir. I'll have the room swept immediately. All of it will go to the northern pack."

"Good. Jason doesn't need to be privy of this. And neither does his team or my niece. If the master alpha chooses a separate path than my judgement, then I don't want this coming back on him once he ascends the Alphahood. Wolves must submit to their king, not bow to Dead Men. Page can carry out Victoria's legacy on our behalf. Understood?"

"Yes, sir. Alpha's orders."
