"Alpha Julien Bellamy and She-Alpha Claudine Bellamy, of the Broken Pines."
Jason frowned slightly, his brow furrowing before he quickly smoothed his face to smile at the couple approaching him. We'll talk soon, he said calmly, his eyes on the alphas. I wrinkled my nose to see it was the brunette woman I had dealt with earlier in the evening and my good mood was officially gone. I swallowed again and tried to calm my nerves, reaching for the glass of water in front of me.
"You good?" Gabriel asked.
I nodded slightly as I sipped the cold water and replaced the glass. "Yeah, I'm all right... That guy was just a prick."
"I vote next time we get you included with us," Krystal said from her seat and I smiled at the sentiment. "You are part of the royal family, after all."
I leaned back in my chair slightly to let my shoulders rest against it. "Part of the family, yes, but that's for you three to enjoy," I answered her. "I don't like attention like this. You know that."
Krystal smiled over at me. "You sound like Grandfather."
"He's always liked to be behind the curtain as far back as I can remember," Gabriel chuckled. "Even when Mum was getting confirmed as the Dark Child. She said he had to come before the covens and testify."
"I can hear him now. 'Publicity isn't my thing,'" Nik said, doing his best British accent with a gruff voice.
I smiled, but couldn't laugh as easily as I had in the alpha den. "I just don't want to damage his reputation," I added finally, meaning Jason.
"Seren, you could only make him look better. Promise," Krystal answered me.
"He needs a gorgeous woman at his side," Nikolas added. "And we all know you're the hot blonde in our family."
I rolled my eyes and smirked. "Someone had to stand out among all you dark-haired and brunette athletic freaks of nature," I said, trying to forget Killian Page's warning. I glanced over towards the blonde pack alpha and caught sight of him, seated with two attractive women on either side at a table full of his pack mates. He was smiling, completely unaffected by his own actions.
"Isn't that the pot calling the kettle black?" Gabriel teased me, pulling my attention back to my cousins. "You are the hybrid, after all."
"Ouch, low blow," I shot back, my nose wrinkling at him in mock distaste.
He chuckled and shook his head before taking a drink of his gin-and-tonic.
"Alpha William Kipling and She-Alpha Nicolette Kipling, of the Snowy Fields."
I turned my head again to glance at the new arrivals before looking back to the Black Paw pack. I wanted to memorize their faces so I would know whom to avoid for the rest of the event. I studied them for another few seconds and then I glanced at the new alpha pair.
"You know I'm just kidding with you," Gabriel replied, his gaze also on the latest couple.
"Yeah," I said distractedly as I watched the Kipling pair. My eyes flicked up to Jason to see him grin a little wider than he had before. I tipped my head to the side, curious. He obviously knew them well. The woman was tall and willowy in build, making me think of her as an Amazonian beauty with her long, dark red hair that hung in thick curls down her back. Her mate was a tree trunk of a man with broad shoulders and thick legs. If he wanted to, he could rip my little body in half with his bare hands. He was grinning to show his teeth, his mouth beneath a dark brown mustache and beard that encircled his lips to touch his chin, leaving his jaw line clean-shaven.
