He awoke in the meadow and breathed in its scent. He hadn't seen Serenity in weeks; and, he hoped that if he was here, it meant she would be, too. Jason got to his feet and stretched, looking around. He inhaled deeply, searching for her scent. It was faint, but there was something else... Blood.

"Serenity?" he called, turning in a slow circle to look for her. Off to his right he could make out white among the dark green grass, shaded under a stunted tree. He squinted. "Seren?"

Jason jogged across the distance, the stench of blood filling his nose and overpowering her scent of wildflowers and Marionberries. When he reached her, he saw the source. Her white dress was covered in dark red around her hip and across her chest. Her blonde hair was thrown over her eyes and obscured her face, only her pale lips visible. She was lying on her side, curled into a ball among the green grass. Her skin was paler than usual where the blood stained her limbs and pooled on the white fabric of her dress.

Panic set in.

"Serenity? Seren, wake up!"

Jason dropped down to his knees, shaking her shoulder. His other hand pushed against her side to staunch the blood, unsure if she was still bleeding. The blood was cool to the touch instead of warm and he hoped it meant she had healed beneath her dress. "Serenity, oh god, Serenity, wake up," he cried, pushing the hair off her face.

She sighed heavily, her eyes blinking slowly, but it was clear she wasn't actually seeing anything. Her eyes were dead of any emotion or recognition that he was there.

"Oh, sweetheart, c'mon," Jason breathed, "what happened to you?" He reached to cup her cheek in his hand, blood covering his fingers and now her face. He turned her head so she was looking up at him. "Seren, what happened? Where are you?"

She stared at him blankly, her mouth slightly open and cracked in the corners from being dehydrated. "Hi," she whispered when she made the connection of who he was.

"Serenity, where are you? What happened?" he asked, his voice frantic as he put his hand back to her side, putting pressure on the injury.

"I'm with you," she murmured before closing her eyes again.

Jason shook her again. "No, baby, no. Don't go to sleep. Stay with me. Come on, sweetheart. Serenity, where is your body? Where did you fall asleep?"

Jason shot up in bed, checking for blood as he looked around for Serenity. The meadow was gone and so was she. Had it been a nightmare? Were they really in the meadow together?

He pushed out of bed and went to the mirror in his bathroom, looking for blood on his body that had been hers.

I'm with you...

Had she meant at that moment in the meadow? She'd been covered in blood, and he was terrified it was hers. Could it have been someone else's? Had she been in a feeding bloodlust without any control?

Where are you?, he called across their connection, hoping she would hear him. He had sensed her fear once, but it had come on so fast and was gone just as quickly. He didn't know how real it had been. He thought he heard her voice twice, calling his name; but when he had answered, she never responded.

He couldn't wait. He needed to know where she was. Something was wrong, and he could feel it. Jason hopped his way into a pair of jeans and grabbed a t-shirt from his drawers. He located socks and his boots, pulling them on. He glanced towards the phone, thinking of calling the coven house. If Lord Avalon was there, he'd refuse to let Jason speak to his daughter. But Avalon wasn't the authority at the coven house; Elizabeth and Marcus were. He inhaled, willing to risk any animosity, and decided to call.
