Sounds of stomping footfalls woke me from sleep and I shot up into a sit, pulling out of Jason's arms. I spun around to look towards the cell door, sunlight and Jason's body blocking me against the wall. It was still evening.

"Alpha Jason!" Peter hollered as the five men coming down the stairs converged on our cell.

Jason woke up in a start, spinning around to look in the same direction I was. As I got to my feet, he did, too, blocking my body against the wall with his. He kept one arm behind him, pushing into me.

The door to our cell swung open and three guards came in, two holding billy clubs. As two of the three moved in on us, Thomas and Daniel rushed the bars, ready to attack. Jason waited for one to get close enough before striking out in a clothesline punch. His hit landed on the henchman's jaw, making the man hiss in pain as he fell back a step.

"Get 'em," the second guard instructed and the third man obliged, rushing Jason and raising his arm for a hard punch. He hit Jason across his cheek, knocking him back and to the right before Jason had a chance to block. He grunted, stumbling a step before retaliating.

The man who had spoken moved in on me and I pushed my body as flat to the wall as possible, watching him move through the sunlight towards me. His dark clothes looked grey in the moment of light and I could see his tan face and his curly dark hair. I glanced at the billy club in his hand and I swallowed, steadying myself to fight. There was nowhere to go without being touched by the sun; but if I could push him back and away, maybe I had a chance.

"Serenity!" Thomas hollered.

I ducked the punch the henchman tried to make, attempting to snatch me. I dodged again when he swung the billy club at my head. I dropped down and kicked my leg out at his knee, hearing the crunch of his joint fracturing. The man snarled in pain as he fell off-balance and bent in half at the waist. I stood and jerked my knee upward, connecting with his nose. I grimaced, hating how much it hurt without my usual vampire strength. There was another telling crunch of cartilage, making him howl in pain. He retreated back three steps, grasping his face as blood poured from between his fingers.

"Damn mutt!" he bellowed from behind his hands. "Grab her, dammit!"

The man that Jason had punched first moved forward in a fast charge, recovered. I glanced at Jason for a half-second as he continued to trade blows with the other guard. I turned my attention back just in time as the other took a leap, his arms around me in a tackle before I could move. My head hit the concrete wall behind me and I yelped as we found the ground.

"Serenity!" Jason cried out, turning his head to see me fall, not seeing the cross-punch from his attacker. He growled as he fell back, the hit hard enough to knock him flat.

I shoved against the body on top of me, jabbing with my elbow into the man's chest and diaphragm. He raised up enough to bring his fist down on my face and my head turned with the blow, a choked sound leaving my throat. I could feel warm blood welling up in my mouth. Before I could turn my head to look back at him, he got to his feet and brought me up with him, whipping me around to face the wall and pushing my head against the concrete. His body pressed into mine as he struggled to pin my arms against my back.

"Get off her!" someone's voice came from off to my left and I could hear the bars being beat on.

When the henchman twisted my wrist almost too far, I cried out, pressing my cheek into the wall. "Let's go, half-blood," he breathed heavily in my ear, hot air blowing across my neck and face.

"Serenity!" Jason shouted again as I was pulled off the wall.

"Shut it, Hellmuth," his captor growled at him as he pinned Jason to the ground, now joined by one of the remaining men who had been waiting outside our cell.
