I became alert when the noises of others in the hallway filtered in. I focused on the corner of the hall that led to the door before my eyes had to close for several seconds. A loud crack sounded, making my adrenaline spiked. I forced my eyes up to watch again.

I hoped silently that it wasn't Doctor Nelson or either of the alphas. I didn't have it in me to deal with their torturous taunts and prodding. My whole body hurt even more, aware of the damage done. I watched as the blurred shapes of four people came around the corner in dark clothing. I made out blonde hair on the shortest figure in the group, and then I saw a spaded tail on one of the men.

Luce, my mind sobbed. I closed my eyes, relieved.

"Oh, gods above," I heard Contessa's voice.

"Serenity," Luce echoed her.

The sound of movement overtook the silence and there was a shuffling of medical supplies being pushed around, metal clinking against glass. I opened my eyes just in time to see Jason's face inches from mine, and I managed a small smile. His hand touched my hair gently before cupping my cheek.

"Here," came the sound of Thomas's voice as keys jingled somewhere near my head. "Those will unlock the restraints."

There was sharp pain that filled my bruised forearms as the IVs were removed and I winced when the needles slid out of my skin. I felt a soft pinch of the shackles tightening and then they released as I slipped forward. Jason's torso caught mine and he pulled me up into his arms. My head fell limp onto his shoulder. I hurt, Jay. It hurts so much...

"I've got you, sweetheart. I've got you," he whispered, his chin resting on my head. He felt so warm and real against my skin. "Can you use your legs?"

I shook my head slightly, wincing when he hooked his elbow more fully under my knees. I was numb with pain from the waist down.

"Jason, we've gotta go," I heard my brother tell him. "Here."

"I've got her," Jason asserted. There was a sound of things still being jumbled and I wanted to know why they were being so loud.

"Luce, look at these," Contessa said from somewhere off to my left. "Silver nitrate, amitriptyline, belladonna, wolf's bane, gabapentin... These herbs and chemicals they mixed with the medications are all poisonous. I know an anti-Wolf cocktail when I see one."

My eyes opened just enough to see my brother turn to face us from looking at the medical chart. "Shit. Is she cold to the touch?" he asked.

"Yeah," Jason answered, his voice wary.

"Lay her down. Shit, shit," Luce answered, immediately rifling through the medical cabinets again. "She's been drained. There isn't enough blood in her system to counteract and heal against the poisons. Those two medications would have kept her sedated and slow down her ability to heal. There's been too much much damage done to her body."

There was a loud howl from outside and I knew it couldn't be good.

"I've got it. Could be Maria," Thomas's voice followed the sound. Seconds later, the door pulled closed.

"Luce, we don't have time. We need to go," Contessa urged. "Grab what you need and we can work on her in the truck."

"She's not going to get that far like this," he answered her. I heard glass ding against metal behind me.

"What are you doing? She's had enough drugs!" Jason snapped, pulling my body closer to his.

"I'm giving her something for the pain! She's going to hurt even more once we move her. Her body needs to heal," Luce answered him. A myriad of barking broke out somewhere outside and I shivered. "Damn it, hold her still."
