Sighing, I ran up the stairs.
"Sam?" I ask softly, knocking on the door slightly. Sniffing fills my ears, and becomes closer.
At the very second the sniffling stops, the door opens.
"Sorry, I forgot my bag," He says, keeping his head down.
I cock my head, and cross my arms. He looked mad.
I swear he has anger issues...
He heads downstairs, stomping loudly as he does so.
I follow, and see that Jaime still isn't anywhere to be seen. Sam is eating a piece of bacon, looking away.
"Let's go to school," He says, probably hoping I don't press him with questions and comments.
"We have twenty more minutes," I tell him, looking into the living room. "I don't wanna stand in the cold for twenty minutes, but I don't know about you." I gave him an encouraging smile. He rolled his eyes.
"What ever."
"Sam, schools gonna be easy, if that's what you're wondering."
"Yeah, for you."
"What?"
"Drop a pencil? You barely hafta lift a finger to get it back. Don't want homework? Just make the papers float out the door." He makes hand motions with his hands.
"Really, Sam?" I snap, my hands going onto my hips, reflexes kicking in. "You think I want telekinesis? I'd LOVE to be normal. Yea, it has its perks, but oh well." I saw him squint his eyes slightly, his teeth obviously clenched. I almost smiled, because if there was anything I liked, it was annoying my little brother.
"You're such a liar."
"Whatever you say," I snap, and grab more bacon. But I know Sam's anger won't die as quickly as mine.
"Yea, that's what you always say. You never can argue the right way."
"Whats the right way to argue, Sam? Enlighten me." I spun on my heel, facing him. Yea, another way we're alike, is we get triggered at the most simple things.
"Well, you don't say, 'whatever you say'. It's a stupid comeback."
"Whatever you say." I smirk, and turned around. I heard him sigh loudly.
"Just... shut up, alright!" He yells. As horrible as it is to say, I smiled.
"Ok." I knew this was pressing his buttons. I heard him stomp away to the door.
Jaime ran out, giving us both a huge smile.
"Ok, guys! Time to get out to the bus!" She exclaims, making hand motions to the door. I shake my head, confused.
"We have like, sixteen minutes. And it's like, fourteen degrees out." I say, eating the last piece of bacon. Her shoulders slump, but her smile remains.
"Ok.. well, guess what?"
"What?" Sam asks. I'm surprised he talked at all, considering how he felt about living with Jaime.
If it was humanly possible, her mouth became even bigger.
"I'm pregnant!" She squealed happily. My eyes widened, and Sam gasped.
"But you're not even dating someone!" Sam snaps. Jaime looks taken aback.
"I know.." she said, her voice edging with confusion.
"The kids gonna grow up not knowing it's dad!" He yelled.
"Sam!" I scolded.
"Shut up Raylin. You know what it's like to be parentless. It's horrible. Living without even ONE stable parent, it's stupid." Jaime looked like she was on the brim of tears, and anger inflicted me. I love Jaime, a lot. She's such a good parent, and yet, Sam still considered himself parentless.
Everyone was dead silent for a moment. But then I could see visible tears run down her face
"Jaime.." I mummer, walking over. But, she just wiped her eyes and says,
"Go outside with your brother." Of course I listen, and roughly drag Sam to the door with me. He doesn't try to move as I shove him put the door, and pull myself out with him.
"I'll see you when we get home, Jaime!" I call out quickly.
There was still ten minutes before the bus would pick us up.
