"I want to know her!" Sam yells. I sighed, my fingers rubbing against my temples.
"They've got to have a record at the hospital, Sam. Why don't you just ask Jaime to drive you?" I asked, chewing on my piece of gum.
"Because I don't want to hurt her feelings.."
"Thought she was a horrible mom?"
"Shut up. Are you going to help me or not? I need to know, Raylin. It's not even that I want to anymore." His eyes looked into mine, tears visible. I sighed again, and looked at my phone.
4:15.
"Sam, what exactly do you want me to do? Jaime knows how to handle it, I wouldn't."
"Fine. I'll ask Jaime. But I don't want her to get upset. If so, you're helping her." I shrugged, and pulled up Justin's contact. Then I turned it off, deciding not to text him until later when Sam was over this.
We walked downstairs, and saw Jaime on the couch, flipping through channels and eating ice cream. I chuckled.
"Hey, Jaime?" I asked, walking over. She looked up as me and Sam walked over. "Can I ask a favor?"
"Of course," she says, sitting up and placing her bowl down.
"Um..me and Sam wanted to... ask you if we could go to the hospital and see what they could find on our birth mom. It's not like we fully care, we just want to at least know her name."
"It's ok if you say no," Sam added behind me. I nodded, and bit my lip. She smiled, and I couldn't tell if it was forced or not.
"Of course! It's perfectly fine to want to know about your parents. Although, I will have to make a quick call to the agency and ask them to give the hospital permission to tell us," she explains. I nodded, and let out a breath I had been holding. It was relieving to know she wasn't mad.
I watched her get up, and head to the kitchen to where the house phone was. Her stomach was noticeably getting slightly bigger, and I hoped she'd have the kid soon. I know it's a nine month process and all, but I wanted this kid here as soon as possible.
I felt my phone vibrate, and I snatched it from my pocket. I hated how badly I wanted it to be Justin.
It was.
Justin: Hey
Me: Hey.
Justin: Wanna hang out? There's a new movie out called 47 meters down
Me: I want to, but me and Sam just asked Jaime to do a HUGE favour.
Justin: Oh great. That already sounds like it was fun.
Justin: What'd you guys ask
Me: If she could contact the hospital, and see if they could give us information on our mom.
Justin: Ohhh..... how'd she react?
Me: She's going to take us and see what they'll tell us.
Justin: Ok.. you wanna talk later?
Me: Yeah. I'll talk to you after.
I sighed, and watched Jaime walk in. She was smiling.
"They're seeing what they can do. We're gonna head over in five minutes," she says. I nodded, and looked at Sam. His face was unreadable. I took my phone out, and looked at the time.
I let out a big breath, and sighed. I looked at my photos, and smiled as I came across a picture of me and Sam in a pool. We looked so happy, and so normal.
"Alrighty. Let's go," Jaime says, and opens the door. Sam practically hops out, and I slowly followed.

After we got to the hospital, they said in order to get a full name on our mom, or something along those lines, they needed a blood test.
I was terrified of needles, but knew how important it was to Sam that I do this. Jaime had asked them to hurry with mine, or do something because of my fear. I absolutely hated them.
After the blood test was finished, I held a cotton ball on my arm. Sam did the same.
"We get to learn her name!" He squealed, hugging me. I smiled, and ran a hand down his hair. For a brief moment, it was perfect. I hated her, and I didn't even know her. She gave us up for no reason.
The doctor came out, looking horribly upset. He glanced at Jaime, and waved her over.
They spoke in a small room until Jaime dropped the pen she had been holding.
She walked out, and leaned against the wall as the doctor walked over to us. Jaime was biting the end of her finger.
Jaime and I shared a glance until the doctor spoke.
"We analyzed the blood tests.." he says. "And, there's no easy way to say this..."
"Say what?" I said, my grip on the edge of the couch hardening.
"You and Sam.. are not related. There is no possible way you two could be related, the blood types don't match. Sam's is different from your mother's, Raylin's There.. was a mix up." He turned to me. "Your mother gave birth to a baby a year after you were born. As well did Sam's mother. But the children got mixed up when we..." I couldn't even hear the rest. I couldn't look at Sam. I couldn't look at Jaime.
All I could do was look at my lap as water flooded my eyes. I closed them to try and keep the tears from leaving.
Sam.. was going to have a normal life. But my mother.. my stupid mother had another kid. Another kid who was out there.
Sam. I couldn't look at him. I couldn't look at anyone. But when I did end up looking at Jaime, I burst into tears. My mind became fuzzy.
"Raylin? Are you ok?" I heard Sam's voice. I shook my head, and gripped the edge of the waiting room couch.
Before I knew it, Jaime was leading me to the car, a slip of paper in her hands.
