“Jess, it has been three and a half weeks since the party. I've waited and waited for everything to go back normal, but it's not. My symptoms are just getting worse. What the hell do I do if I'm pregnant? I'm too young to be a mother. I can't disappoint my parents like this. I can't begin high school pregnant.” I cried over the phone to Jessica. Two and a half weeks late. Since I started my period at the tender age of nine, I was never late. I was hoping and praying that this wouldn’t be a possibility.
“If your parents aren't home than get in the extra car and pick me up. We'll go to the store and buy a pregnancy test. Shit, we'll buy a bunch. You can't think like that until you know for sure.” She retorted, trying to make me feel better.
“I'll be there in ten minutes.” I replied before hanging up. I flew down the stairs and picked up the set of keys for the extra car. My parents were gone at work for the day. They leave the extra car and keys for emergencies. This was an emergency. I slipped in the 2008 black Charger and sped off to Jessica's house. Once I picked Jessica up, I drove off towards the nearest drug store.
“Listen to me; I’m your best friend. Whatever those test results are, I’ll still be here for you, forever and always. I don’t think you are pregnant but if you are and let’s say your parents kick you out, well then my aunt will let you stay with me. She is too drunk half the time to notice who is at the house anyway. Don’t worry about it. Okay?” Jessica always knows the things to say to make me feel better.
“Thank you, but what about school? I can't face everyone. I'll look like a complete whore.” I said as I pulled into the Walgreens parking lot.
“Look at me, if anyone and I mean anyone has something negative to say, I will personally beat their ass.” I nodded my head as I stopped the car.
I picked out five different boxes, each containing two tests. The lady at the register looked at me then at the test and back. She looked disgusted. “Are you going to ring me up or stare at me with that dumb ass look?” I snapped. She rolled her eyes and rung me up. “Thought so.” I said, snatching the bag out of her hands.
“Damn girl, your hormones are already crazy.” Jess laughed.
“Stupid asses shouldn’t look at me like that. I’m sure I’m not the only damn teenager who came to buy pregnancy test.” I rolled my eyes and kept driving.
When I arrived home, I took all ten tests and waited three agonizing minutes that felt like hours. I picked up the first one and it had one line. Not pregnant. Before I could get too happy, I looked at the rest of them and sure enough, they all had two lines except for the two digital tests, that said pregnant. Fuck, this cannot be happening. I slowly slid to the floor, bursting in tears. My family is going to be disappointed and hate me. I’m a whore. How the hell can a kid raise a kid? I'm just a kid! “What happened? Jenny, open the damn door before I bust it open!” Jessica shouted, banging on the door.
Standing up, I unlocked the door and Jessica barged in, looking frantic. I looked up at her with my tear streaked face. “I-I-I’m p-pregnant, J-Jess.”
“W-What are you going to do?” Jess stuttered, enveloping me in a hug.
“I-I have no clue.” I felt like the world was falling around me. I was confused. My chest tightened up as I struggled to breathe. Complete darkness took over and the last thing I heard was, “Jenny! Jenny! Are you okay?!”
My eyes fluttered open from blinding, bright lights. Adjusting my eyes, I looked around noticing bright, white walls. “Wh- Where am I?” I croaked, my voice dry.
“Jenny! Honey, she‘s waking up! Sweetie, it‘s Mom and Dad, you‘re in the hospital. Jess called saying you fainted and hit your head really hard on the counter corner. You‘ve been out for three days.” Mom said while rubbing my forehead.
