I woke up with a pain in my lower back and stomach. When I inhaled and exhaled, the pain intensified. “Derrick!” I screamed as I felt a contraction hit.
“Babe, what’s wrong?” He jumped up out of the bed. I felt another contraction and couldn’t hold the scream.
“Call Dr. Turner,” I said through gritted teeth as another wave of pain hit me.
He grabbed his phone and found Dr. Turners number. “Jenny woke up screaming in pain. I think she is going into labor. Meet you there!” He threw his phone down. “Let’s get you to the hospital, now.”
He swiftly picked me up and quickly walked outside. He sat me down and ran back into the house. He ran back out with the baby bag and threw it in the car, while he was still naked. “Babe, clothes.”
He looked at me confused then looked down, “Oh!” He ran and threw some on pants and a white v-neck. Even though I was in pain, I could still laugh at that. Another wave of pain hit me and I clutched my stomach in pain. Derrick ran out just in time to help me stay up and pulled his arm around my waist, supporting me. He placed me in the car and got in, taking off to the hospital. “Isn’t it too early, babe?” He asked with voice full of concern.
“I’m only twenty-nine weeks but twins are expected early.” I was cut off but another contraction. Eying the clock, I noticed that they were every five minutes.
“Call my mom and let her know,” I told Derrick.
He nodded his head, “Call mother in law.” His car was programed so he can say call whoever and it would call. My mom’s number was saved as mother in law in his phone. Bentley happened to be staying with my mother.
Speaking of Bentley, he has fully recovered from the wreck and so have I. Thank God, because I would not be able to take care of twins with a broken leg. I sent a text message to my closest friends and relatives to let them know. They rushed me in the emergency room in a wheel chair. As I was getting out of the wheel chair, I felt that familiar liquid substance. “I think my water just broke.”
“You are going to have to deliver tonight. You are only twenty-nine weeks along. Yes, it is very early and there may be breathing problems but the babies have an eight out of ten chance of surviving, which is good.” Dr. Turner stated, while checking how dilated I was. “You are ten centimeters dilated, you going to have to start pushing.”
I heard a light tap on the door and my mom appeared. “You made it,” I spoke softly.
“I wouldn’t miss it for the world. Erin is in the waiting room with Bentley.” She answered my unspoken question.
After a few pushes, baby A took its first breath in the world. “Baby A is a beautiful baby girl,” She flashed me my baby, but the doctor took her away. It wasn’t shocking because I knew that was going to happen, they are preemies. After three minutes, baby B was born, “Baby B is a beautiful baby girl, also.” Dr. Turner did the same as Baby A and whisked her away.
“They are beautiful,” I whispered as a tear slid down my cheek.
“Just like their mommy,” Derrick kissed me, sweetly.
After I delivered and they cleaned me up, I was told to get some rest. I couldn’t sleep so they gave me a few pain meds that made me quickly fall asleep.
I woke up to Dr. Turner tapping my leg. “How are you feeling, sweetie?” She questioned.
“A little sore, but okay. How are the girls?”
“Unfortunately, the babies have to live in an incubator until they are ready to breathe and eat on their own. It’s normal for twins but besides that they are perfectly healthy. A nurse will be in here in a minute to take you and Derrick to see them. Congratulations.” Dr. Turner turned to walk away as the nurse peered through the door with a wheelchair.
