FIVE YEARS LATER
I stood up and waited until I had everyone’s attention. “I’d like to thank everybody for coming out and celebrating this very amazing day with us. Every one of you mean so much to us. I love each and every one of you.” Everyone clapped for me and I took my fat ass to eat. “Y’all being fat asses too?” I questioned Erin, Jessica, and my mom.
“Nope, we’re being pregnant.” I laughed along with them and piled a bunch of food on my plate.
“Aunt Jenny, Dani and Gabi are being mean to me.” Jessica’s five year old little girl, Ashley said. She had green eyes and curly brown hair.
“Tell them Momma said to stop or they will be going to time out.” Dani and Gabi are five years old and Jessica’s first child is five, also. It’s hard to believe how fast they grow up.
“Ma, ba-wa.” My little sister, Nevaeh Michelle King cooed, pointing to her bottle. She is thirteen months old. My mother is also three months pregnant.
“Mike Jr. is sucking the life out of me,” Jessica whined making me laugh.
“Oh, wait until you have twins.” I joked. Jessica is six months pregnant with her second child, which happens to be a boy.
“Hell no, I am not having twins. They don’t run in my family.” I laughed at her, considering Derrick is Mike’s cousin and it runs in their family, as well as mine.
“You forgot Mike's dad is a twin,” The look on her face was priceless.
“Y’all have issues,” Erin joked, kissing on her Spanish teacher. They are still together and she is now four months pregnant with twin boys. She had another little girl after Esmeralda, but sadly, she was too early and couldn’t survive.
“Mommy, Janessa is crying!” Bentley called, with his bright blue eyes and deep dimples. Hard to believe he is seven years old.
“Oh great, what happened now?” I questioned, ditching my food for damage control. Janessa is my four and a half year old daughter. She has luscious green eyes and beautiful curly hair.
“Baby girl, what happened?” I cooed.
“I.. Fell.. Down the slide.” She cried out and pointed to her knee. I noticed the big red spot and took her to get cleaned up. As she ran to go play, Nicole came up to me.
“Hey, I just wanted to say, thank you for inviting me and I’m really sorry for the past.” She started off.
“Don’t worry about it; it’s in the past for a reason.” I shooed her apology off.
“What the hell happened to you?” I nearly shouted as I noticed the bruised and broken blonde sitting on the sidewalk, crying her eyes out.
“He tried to rape me, and then he beat me and took off.” She cried, laying her head on my shoulder. I knew we weren’t on proper terms but this girl needed help. I took her to my house and got her all washed up. When she woke up the next morning, she voiced the question I have been wondering all day, “Why’d you help me?”
“Just because we’ve had our differences doesn’t mean I could leave you there to die or something. I’m not heartless.”
“Thank you, a lot. It means so much to me. I have done anything in my power to try to hurt you and break you down. It has never worked; maybe that’s why I was so jealous of you. You had the perfect guys and you didn’t even have to be slutty. You had a child at a young age and took care of him wonderfully, while I had to give mine up for adoption because my parents didn’t want their stupid name ruined. You’ve had everything I have ever wanted; a good life and family with people who love you.” She sniffled.
“It must have taken a lot of courage to admit that. Look, let’s start over. My name is Jenny and it's nice to meet you.” I handed out my hand to her.
She laughed, wiping away her tears, “I’m Nicole, and it’s nice to meet you, too.”
The gleaming in the sunlight brought my flashback to a stop and my eyes to her wedding finger, “He proposed!?” I nearly shouted.
“And… I’m pregnant.” She said, smiling. Derrick wrapped his hands around her tiny waist, smiling.
“He is already an amazing dad and you are an amazing step-mom. I’m so happy for you guys.” I hugged them tightly before letting them be.
Who never said ex’s can’t be friends? You can't. The voice in my head decided to put its two cents in but I just ignored it.
“Babe, you need to sit down and rest. Have you even eaten to day?” My wonderful lover asked me, wrapping his muscular arms around me.
“I tried, but Janessa hurt herself again and I’ve been running around like a chicken with its head cut off.” He kissed me on my neck, gently.
Brandon wrapped his hand around swollen belly and whispered in my ear, “Go feed my twin boys.” I laughed lightly, and dragged him along.
“Mommy, you look beautiful,” Cynthia stated, giving me a hug. She is now ten years old.
“Thank you, baby girl. You always look beautiful.” I kissed her on the cheek and she ran off to play.
I looked down at our fingers intertwined and took in the big rock I was wearing and the wedding band he was wearing, “It’s hard to believe today, we’ve been married for four years.”
He pecked me on the lips, “I wouldn’t change a thing.”
