“I love you,” Is what he said, making my thoughts and breathing stop.

“W-What?” I choked out, wishing he hadn’t said what he did. Now, it’s going to ruin everything.

He sat up before explaining, “There is something about you, Jenny. I have loved you since day one. Cynthia always talks about how beautiful you are and how wonderful of a mother you are. I love you and I can’t help it. I’ve tried to let my feelings go, but there is just something holding me back. Maybe it’s the sparks I feel when we touch, the kisses that make me feel like I’m floating, or when I look in your eyes. You don’t have to say it back if you don’t mean it, but I can’t walk out of here another day without telling you how I feel. This may seem too fast, but love happens unexpected. I don't expect you to the feel the same. I didn't expect myself to feel this way. I have never felt like this about someone.”

Do I love him? Or do I love Derrick? Did I seriously just ask myself that question? “Look, I’m not telling you I love you because it wouldn’t be true to me or to you. I like you a lot and I wanna see where it goes.” I smiled at him and he leaned in to kiss me.

“Mommy, we should go shopping for an outfit so I can go on a date with Brandon.” I said into the phone when she picked it up later that day.

“Of course, baby girl. I’ll meet you at the mall.” We said our goodbyes and hung up the phone. I couldn’t stand being in the house another second without my babies. I slipped on my shoes and walked out to my car. The ride to the mall was boring because it was just me. The radio was on point today.

“Hey mommy,” I greeted her, kissing her on the cheek

“Hey baby.”

“What’s dad doing?” I asked.

“He’s playing golf with his friends. So, how has it been without the kids?”

“I miss them so freaking much. So, let’s go get some ice cream and talk more.” She nodded her head and we walk to the food court and ordered some ice cream. Sitting down, I decided to inform her on this morning, “So, Brandon told me he loved me.”

She dropped her spoon, “What?”

“Yeah, I didn’t tell him it back. I can’t do that to him, it wouldn’t be fair. I’m honestly not fully over Derrick. He is the father of my kids and it’s kind of hard to get over him, especially when he is sending me flowers and stuff.” I explained.

“I taught you well, haven’t I? Unlike all these other little girls out here, you don’t throw love around like it’s nothing.”

“I have you to thank that for. You finished?” I asked, taking the last bite of my ice cream.

“Yeah, I’m full.” She answered, standing up. We walked to my favorite store, Nordstrom. I saw the most beautiful dress I have ever laid eyes on.

The sexy short black dress had an asymmetrical neckline and sheer draped sleeve on the single strap with sparkling embellishments that define the waist and a sheer overlay on the mini skirt. To go with it, I found a cute pair of gold heels. “This is the one,” I squealed when I tried it on.

When I walked out of the dressing room, my mom’s jaw dropped, “You look beautiful. If you don’t buy it, then I will.”

Laughing, I replied, “Oh no, I’m getting it.” I took off the dress and bought it.

Walking back to the car, my mom asked me, “So, your graduation is Saturday, do you know what to wear?”

“Nope, but I’ll will look more this week when I have time.”

“It’s so hard to keep my eyes off you, babe.” Brandon stated. “You look beautiful.”

I twirled around a little bit in my beautiful dress. My hair was curled and my makeup was very light. “Thank you. Since I look so beautiful, will you tell me where we are going?” I attempted.

“Sorry,” He chuckled. I pouted, playfully.

We made short conversations until we pulled up to the restaurant. “Welcome to Five Sixty. What is the reservation under?”

“Brandon Gomez,” She took us to a table.

“I can’t believe you took me here. This place is like a million dollars.” I exaggerate. Five Sixty is a glittering new jewel in Dallas’ skyline, landmark Reunion Tower. It is 560 feet above the ground. Floor-to-ceiling windows provide a panoramic view of Dallas from a revolving dining room. It is a very fancy place. “So tell me about yourself, stranger.” I said, jokingly.

“My name is Brandon Jonathon Gomez, my birthday is September 8th, and I am twenty years old. My parents live in Corpus Kristi with my younger sister, Kaycee. I have an older brother, Michael but he is in the army and is stationed in Japan.”

“Well, my name is Jennifer Nicole King, my birthday is May 2nd, and I am seventeen years old. You know my parents,” I laughed. We talked about everything from our past to our plan for the future. He made me laugh, he made me blush, and I think I am one step closer to telling him those three little words.

An announcement came on the intercom as flowers were being towed my way. I looked over at Brandon with a sly smile on my face. “It’s not from me.” He stated confused.

“This song is dedicated to Jennifer King from Derrick Williams,” The announcement said. (A/N: Cue video>>)

Baby
Can't believe that you are not with me
'Cause you should be my lady
All I want is to set your heart free
But if you believe that you belong with him
Promise me, you won’t let anyone hurt you
Remember, I will always be here for you
Even if it kills me to see you
In that wedding dress
Oh see you in that wedding dress
See you in that wedding dress
Oh see you in that wedding dress.

“You’ve got to be kidding me,” I said, face-palming. A guy handed me a dozen roses with a note card.

Look, I understand you don’t want to be with me. But, I truly do love you and I hope you never forget it and what we had.

“Can you cut the music off and throw these away, please?” I asked the waiter. He nodded his head and soon, the music was off.

“If you listen to the lyrics, he is giving you away.” Brandon smiled deviously.

“He doesn’t own me to give me away.” I replied, annoyed. This date was going good and of course Derrick had to ruin it. He killed the mood.

“You want to get out of here?” He offered.

“Yes, please.”

“Check please?” He said to the waiter.

He brought us the check and I slightly glanced at the bill, “$240?!”

He chuckled a little, “Yes, I have more from where that came from, baby girl.” Once we were in the car, he winked at me, “I can’t wait to take that little dress off you.”

Blushing I replied, “Oh really?”
