“Could we talk?” I asked Derrick when he dropped off the sleeping kids.
                              “Sure,” He replied.
I sat him down on the same swings that I told him about Bentley. Funny how time passes. “I love you. I have since the day I met you in the hallway at school. But right now, I think we should remain broken up. I’m sorry, but I’m so scared that you’ll break my heart again. I’ve been through this game before and I’m not doing it again. I think that we should just focus on us and being parents to our three little ones.” I can’t believe I said it. I came to a decision and it is final.
“Please, don’t do this to me, to the kids. I know I made a mistake and it will never happen again.” He pleaded.
“I can’t see myself with you, anymore. I love you, yes, but I am no longer in love with you. I’ve made up my mind. Once a cheater, always a cheater. You made me realize you’re a filthy pig. Please, leave. I tried to forgive you but I can’t, I think it’s best if we see other people.” Everything I said was completely untrue. I didn’t want to see other people. I am in love with him but I know if I tell him that, then he will keep trying and I can’t give in. Eventually, I would but I don’t need to. He looked at me with tears in his eyes and I had to stop myself from telling him that it wasn’t true. He walked away with one last glance and I felt my heart break. I walked in the house, checking on Bentley and the girls. It was already late so I figured they would sleep through the night. I laid my head on the pillow and cried.
“How would you feel about getting a place of our own? Just me, you, Dani, and Gabi.” I asked Bentley as I was making him some eggs and bacon and a bottle for the girls for breakfast.
It’s been month since I told Derrick that we were done. Jessica’s wedding is in a week so I’ve been busy helping her to worry about everything. “What about Daddy?” He asked. It broke my heart; I didn’t know how to answer that.
“Daddy has his own place, baby. Don’t worry, you can see him whenever you like. I know you may not understand this now, but we aren’t together anymore.”
He looked down and started playing with his food I sat down, “Oh…” I knew it was going to hurt him, but I have to do what I believe is right. I walked up stairs to pick the girls up and feed them.
When I finished, I walked to Jessica's room. “Hey.”
“What’s up?” She questioned, allowing me to come in.
“Do you want to go apartment shopping with me?” I asked.
“Sure. Just let me get dressed.” As I finished getting the kids dressed, I heard Bentley's door open. “Ready?” Jessica asked as I opened the door.
“Yeah,” I answered getting the twins and walking Bentley out the door. I threw my keys to Jessica so she could lock the door. I buckled the kids in and drove off in the direction closer to the community college, which I planned to attend soon.
After looking at four or more apartment complexes, I was headed to the last one, hoping to get lucky. “Mommy, I’m tired.” Bentley replied with a yawn.
“Can I check it out and you can stay in the car with the kids since the girls are asleep and Bentley will be out soon?” I asked. She nodded her head and I ran in to the apartment.
“It has three bedrooms of decent size. It’s fully furnished, all the bills together is one thousand dollars.” A young man said. He was handsome. I couldn’t help the little flutter in my stomach as I looked in to his eyes. “My name is Brandon and I live down the hall. Who would all live here?” He asked.
“Me, my twin daughters, and my little boy Bentley.” I replied. He nodded his head, but didn’t look shocked. “I like this place,” I stated, looking around. “I think I’ll take it.”
