the next day at school

zach's pov

loren wasn't at my house to ring my doorbell and walk to school with me.

instead i missed my alarm, ate oatmeal (ew), couldn't find clean clothes, and was already late and couldn't get a ride from anyone in my family.

-

at lunch she wasn't at the lunch table.

i usually come to lunch early and go on my social medias.

but when i was about to check my instagram the "popular people" came into the cafeteria.

usually everybody is so amazed of how nice their outfits are, or how fit they are, but today people were more amazed today than ever.

there was a new girl.

a girl with blonde, wavy hair, blue eyes and a white smile.

i knew it was loren.

but this wasn't the same loren i knew.

she was wearing a dress and makeup and-heels. HEELS!?

flashback

"my mommy says i'm not allowed to wear heels until i'm older."

"it's fine loren, we don't need some gross colored heels, and plus my mom said that we're going to get new shoes today! and you can come too!"

"really zach? i can come!?"

"of course!" "just as long as you agree that heels are stupid."

"zach, i already know heels are stupid. i never wanna wear heels in my whole entire life."

end of flashback

i never wanna wear heels in my whole entire life.

those words stayed in my head. repeating over and over and over again.

i just wanted to shout.

of how fake loren looks now, of how she broke her promise.

i know this promise doesn't sound very big, but i can't believe who she has become.

a popular girl, wearing a dress, heels and tons of makeup.

and now with a boy.

i wasn't jealous, i was like the older brother she never had.

and now i guess i'm also her invisible best friend.

mario's confession

tomorrow is december twenty-first, two-thousand and sixteen.

the date that i turn sixteen.

(a/n; he's actually turning 17 but in this book he was 15)

i don't wanna grow up.

i wanna be this tiny child forever.

although nobody would care that i would be turning seventeen.

i'm just like any other teenage boy that goes to high school and loves a normal life.

i'm not like one of those famous teens.

and i'll never be.
