Chapter Nineteen / Sydney
"So he's just giving you some space?" Drew asked, sipping on a Sonic slushy. I nodded and kept walking down the street. The day was still young and so were we. We had been walking around for about two hours now, popping into stores, buying small things, and eating of course.
"So it's like you guys taking a break in your relationship?" He asked. I raised an eyebrow at him. "We are not in a relationship." I replied, sipping on my Sprite. "Whatever you call it. There's something there y'all just aren't telling each other." Drew shrugged and I shook my head. "Space, Drew. That's what he's giving me and what I need. Lets just drop this, kay?" I wasn't trying to be rude, I just needed a fresh mind for now before I really have to decide what I want. Drew threw his hands up in defeat and kept looking around. "Lets go in here!" He pulled me by my arm into a dress shop. "Drew! I don't wanna play dress up!" I stomped my foot, earning a few looks from the women in the store. I politely smiled and followed Drew to a rack.
"This is gorgeous!" Drew gasped, pulling a dark red, long dress off the rack. He threw it to me and kept looking. I knew we were going to be here for awhile so I just simply followed after him, as the pile of dresses in my arms kept getting higher. I began to drag my feet and Drew must've noticed because he rolled his eyes at me. "This is the last one!" He tossed a light blue dress on top. I mentally thanked god, and made my way over to the dressing rooms. Drew took a spot in a red plush chair and I got to changing. I had about twelve dresses in my hands but I knew that I would only show Drew like five of them.
I looked through the pile of dresses and ruled out most. Too short, too long, too much cleavage, not enough cleavage, too small, too big. This was torture. I tried on a short black one that had cut outs in the back and walked out into the sitting area. There was a long mirror which I could use to see myself, while Drew speculated. "Too short!" Drew commented. I nodded and went back into the room. I had only four that were okay at glance. I slipped on a dark green sparkly one and stepped out. "I look like a fucking leprechaun!" I pulled at the bottom of the dress and swirled around. "Well, you are Irish!" He winked and I rolled my eyes. I paced back into the room, ready to get out of the pot of gold dress. I stepped into the long red dress and stepped out. My hands ran down the sides and I turned to look at how my butt looked in it. "My butt looks huge!" I stared at my back side while Drew laughed. "Whatever! You have a perfect butt! I'm jealous." He grunted and crossed a leg. I walked back in to change once again. Who knew changing dresses would be such work. I finally slipped on the last dress. The material was really soft and comfortable, unlike the others. I stepped out once again, and my jaw and Drew's dropped together.
The dress fit to my little curves, floor length. It had a soft and smooth fabric. The top had two simple, thin straps and showed the right amount of chest- which to my liking was barely any. The mid section shrunk in a little with a black slim belt, pointing out my curves. If there was a dress made perfectly for every girl, this would be my dress. I whirled around and smiled. This dress made me feel free and confident. My long brown hair whipping around as I twirled in circles. "What do you think?" I looked over at Drew who was wiping away a tear. "I did my job." He sniffled and stood up, walking over to me. He brought me into a hug and patted my head. "My little girls all grown up!" He pulled away and crossed his arms. "So dramatic!" I laughed and looked down at the dress. I looked at the price tag and my jaw practically dropped to the floor. "Drew, I could never buy this!" I shrieked, still gawking at the price tag. It's like double our rent, which was a pretty penny already. I may have a nice check and Drew does too, but I couldn't buy this. "Let me see!" He came over to me and grabbed the price tag. I heard him gulp but then he shooed me away. "Go change! We are so buying you this dress!" He practically pushed me into the room and closed the curtains behind me. I changed from the dress and back into my shorts and floral top. I slipped my toms back on and grabbed my purse. I carried the dress through the store and over to where Drew was standing.
