Chapter 23

The battle raged on.
Neji slouched beside Naruto's nearly lifeless body. Ging had brought him to safety alongside the others.
A shrill cry erupted through the air.
Everyone turned to see Hinata being spiked by a puppet, she was thrown back, and all Wing could do was to watch as she fell.
Wing was fighting off another puppet, digging his feet into the ground, he took a step forward, and thrusted it into the air.
Holding up an open palm, the puppet came into contact with Wing-San's hand where it shattered like broken glass.
Bisky stood guard in front of the young ones, Just a little while longer, she thought while glancing over to Gon and Killua.
They both made a great pair.
Killua crossed his arms like a shield as he was whacked to the side.
"Che," he used his wrist to wipe away the blood. Damn bone freak.
The Akatsuki member showed nearly all of his bones, making Morel even more squeamish than he had already thought possible.
Gon took an advantage point from behind and swung his fist, "JANKENNNN-," a massive orange glow exploded, blinding both the Hunters beside him, and the injured a ways away.
Killua covered his eyes just in time to be too late, a sickening crunch sounded as a low grumble hit the dirt. Gon, you've done it now. A good sized hole was now present, but their opponent recovered quickly, shaking off some dirt, it jumped out of the trench.
Killua smiled wickedly, anticipating what he was about to do.
"Godspeed."
He felt every fibre of his being jolt with energy, he smirked as he felt his hair stand up on edge, and as his fingertips coursed with electricity. Laughter erupted from his mouth.
Kakashi watched eerily as the young Hunter's mouth curved into an emotionless grin.
"I've seen worse," Ging shrugged, "There's this one guy in the Zodiacs..." he narrowed his eyes, "Oooh, that ones gonna hurt tomorrow."
Morel was beaten to the ground by the monster's arm, barely able to defend himself. Bisky cleared her throat, "Where did the ones we were fighting run off to?"
Kakashi scanned the area, "I don't..." On the other side, by the forests' edge, Kakashi spotted a hooded figure.
He's Akatsuki. Simultaneously, Killua was about to touch and shock the bone creature, when it simply disappeared. Killua's body fell to the grass, having not come in contact with it, he scratched his head whilst looking around.
"What?" Killua glared at Bisky snickering, he deactivated Godspeed as he stood.
The petite lady shrugged, still chuckling at his clumsiness, sometimes she wondered if he really was an ex-assassin.

Killua watched Gon stretch and proceed to ask who that was by the forest's edge. If I can only protect one, he shifted his gaze to Kakashi, I'm going to protect Gon.

Kakashi felt a cold presence, but he was trying to focus on developing a plan, if that was who he thought it was, then they would need something more powerful than they possessed.

Sakura tried to brush off Wing-san's comforting words, she stared blankly at Sasuke, not actually seeing him at all. Bisky saw this and ushered her old pupil to Morel.

Meanwhile Naruto was still unconscious, Kakashi's worries increased. How could they fight him off if their most powerful weapon was out?

The Akatsuki member stepped forward.

"Okay, everyone," Kakashi faced them quite quickly, "Don't look into his eyes, don't get too close, try not to use your chakra, and if you feel like you're going to lose, run."

Killua turned to the guy, he was closer now, "What about nen?"

The ninja met Killua's eyes, then pulled up his headband, "It's worth a shot," he exposed his sharingan, knowing that he really wasn't a match for an Uchiha heir.

Naruto stirred, only surprising Sasuke, who had been more concerned about Naruto than anyone. The young dark-haired ninja wobbled over next to his teammate, clutching his own arm in the process. Sakura snapped back trying to see what Sasuke was doing, he was murmuring incoherent words. She strained to listen, but heard nothing.

Killua was watching the Akatsuki guy, wondering why in the world he was walking so slow, but then, he understood. Both Ging and Kakashi clued in too. Bisky saw it too, she towered over the young ninja, beckoning Hinata to bring Neji over as well.

Hinata stumbled, holding Neji across her shoulders, practically dragging him.

Just then, the figure was right in front of the group, along with two others.

Che.

Killua watched the one in the middle, but kept the others in his peripheral vision. One by one, they dropped their hoods, not entirely surprising him.

"Hisoka!" Gon glared, Kakashi never saw that look on him yet, "Illumi..."

Without thinking, Killua instantly moved, vanishing from sight.

He reappeared for a split second, before showing himself as he kicked at the side of Illumi's head. A centimetre before coming into contact, Illumi grabbed his ankle with his left hand, twisting Killua's leg and threw him to him to the ground. He tumbled, and jumped back to stop Gon from joining in.

It all happened so quickly that Sasuke needed his sharingan to follow their movements, he narrowed his eyes, looking back to the one in the middle.

"Itachi," Hisoka's sickly voice rang, "Aren't you going to enlighten them?" he motioned to the group, with one hand on his hip.

Itachi shot Hisoka a warning, then spoke monotonously, "I only wish for them to understand our... thoughts," he was talking to everyone, but was only looking at his younger brother.

"And they are?" Ging droned, crossing his arms.

"You'll see."

Killua felt a small prick at the back of his neck, "Shit."
