Healing

Owen's POV:
"Earth to Owen!" I jump in the passenger seat as Amelia says my name.
"Sorry"
She stops at a red light and looks at me,
"Are you okay?" 
"Yeah I'm fine." I force a small smile and reach over and hold her hand bringing it towards me and kissing the top of it.
"I'm fine now that I'm back with you"
She smiles and goes back to driving when it turns green.
In all honesty, I am not fine. Going back to Iraq was hard for me this time, physically and mentally.
Amelia doesn't know this but Nathan Riggs does. Only because he was standing right beside me when it happened. I was shot in my chest while in combat. I do have a scar on my chest that I'm 100% sure Amelia will notice right away. I don't know how I'm supposed to tell her what happened. It will scare her to death and make her worry about me. It still hurts to move around probably because the stitching job isn't the best because I had very short amount of time to spend on it. And mentally I'm not fine either. Being there again brought back many memories that I never wanted to bring back up again. I'm probably going to go the therapy in the hospital to talk about it so it doesn't get any worse. I'm thrown out of my thoughts again when I realize Amelia pulled into the driveway.
"We're home!" She says full of excitement.
I smile at her excitement and get out of the car.
"Wow it's crazy what 6 months can do. I feel like I haven't been here in forever."
"Come on come on!" She takes my hand and pulls me to the door and opens it and my kids, Megan, my mom and several of our friends from work yell, "WELCOME HOME"
I smile and walk in the house and sit my bag down.
"DADDY"
Addison, Charlotte and Noah come running at me and I crouch down and hug them all. I wince a bit when Addison hugs me quite tightly again but keep smiling to cover it up. I stand up and take Derek from my mom and look down at him then back at Amelia,
"He got so big"
She nods and comes over and smiles at him,
"He missed his daddy"
Derek looks up at me with his big dark blue eyes a nice combination of mine and Amelia's and smiles at me. I hold him and walk over to the play pen and set him in there and hug my mom,
"Hey mom. Thanks for coming"
She smiles and kisses my cheek,
"Thank your wife and kids for arranging this. I just got an invite and came!"
I smile and walk over to the couch and sit with the kids and Megan.
The kids all come to my lap and fight to sit on my lap.
"Settle down settle down. I got long arms to be able to hold all of you. "
I fit Noah and Charlotte on my lap and then let Addie sit right beside me and wrap my arm around her.
"Amelia get over here! This can be a cute family photo!" Megan says excitedly.
Amelia comes over and sits on my other side and leans against me and I put my other arm around her.
"Mom hand her Derek"
My mom grabs Derek from the play pen and hands him to Amelia.
"I'm still in uniform, I can go change first"
Megan shakes her head as she takes mine and Amelia's phone.
"It will be cuter with you in it.  Now everyone smile!"
I smile along with the rest of my family and Megan takes the picture on both and Amelia's phone.
She hands them back to us and we both look at it.
"Hey you kids all managed to look at the camera. Never happens"
Amelia laughs at my comment and lays derek on her legs and plays with him.
"Hey let's try and get him to walk. He's been standing up but I haven't really let him walk because I wanted you to be here."
I smile and lift Noah and Charlotte off me.
"Let's do it"
I sit down on the floor and Amelia sits a little further away from me and holds Derek up. He stands on his own, little wobbly but he's standing.
I grin widely and say to him, "Come here little man!" I hold my arms out for him,
Amelia says, "Go to da-da"
He slowly starts taking a few steps towards me. He falls down on his butt but Addison helps him back up and continues to me.
I keep my arms out and he comes to me and walks into my arms and I lift him up and stand up with him.
"You did it!" He giggles and I put him back on the ground and let him move around some more.

A few hours later everyone starts to leave my mom being last and then it's time for dinner. We all settle for some leftover Chinese and eat it at the table. It feels great to be home again.
