The branches were both a mix of good and bad and you weren't exactly sure which one you liked. The Military Police was the safest and of the most prestige, but it involved being one of the top people in your class. The Garrison was second best in safety, but it was the lowest profile branch - most of the guys you've seen in the Garrison were always wasted on duty. There was also the Survey Corps - they were badass and the only ones who got to see the outside world first hand, but at least half died everyday on their missions.
If you couldn't decide, you didn't need to join. Problem settled.
