"Will you talk to her?"

You break back into reality and look at Valencia Lowe sitting in front of you. You don't recall her being there before.

"Talk to who?"

She smiles. "Mikasa, of course."

You feel your cheeks beginning to blush. "Why would I need to talk to her?"

"Don't play dumb with me, Y/N."

Your chest seems to sink back into your spine, almost having to hold yourself up from falling smack down into the table.

"I don't even think she knows I exist."

"Sure, she does!"

"You think so?"

Valencia, proud of her encouraging words, takes a confident glob-full of grub. "I know so. I'm pretty skilled at picking up hints."

You pick up your spoon and swirl a bit of the mixture around in the bowl. "If you're so good at this stuff, why didn't you ever ask Calum out?"

An electric shock rings throughout her body and Valencia's posture seems to suddenly improve.

"I have a history of not being good with boys."

"Boyfriends? You have boyfriends back in your hometown?"

She half-heartedly laughed. "No, no boyfriends." Valencia seems to fall back into the rhythm of eating her food.

Your mind fell back to the rumors through the training corps, depicting Valencia Lowe as a crazed savage. Didn't she do something to her brother?

"Ah," you try to coax her into giving you information. "Your father wouldn't let you date?"

"Well, he wouldn't let me date. But I never asked him about it."

You scrape up a large chunk of grub to swallow. "Hm."

"Thing is.."
She looks up sporadically from her bowl.
